Either one would be fine I'd imagine. This last run a few guys camped, but I think most of us drove in first thing in the morning. I'll probably be looking to camp on the next run, especially if the fire restrictions are lifted.

Yes definately, we havent came up with any official routes yet but we plan the first part of the day being an easier trail, with a harder trail in the second part of the day. That way everyone can enjoy themselves

I took a some vacation days... And looks like I'm free the 13 and 14th ... but cannot do anything on the 15th; I plan on drinking some liquor that day.

I say AnzaBorrego 13-15 good for large group to camp for those who want to (myself included) and the weather should be damn near perfect for there. Like Wraith said we could all pitch in grub,snacks, drinks and have a lil throw down in the afternoon or evening time grub down.

I won't be camping over night... Im good for a day trip pretty much. I have zero camping gear.

The weather up here is absolutely beautiful right now. I'm really hoping we will get snowed out by mid November but that's probably a long shot. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see where the crew ends up, if it happens to be in my neck of the woods I'll probably join the group. Thanks for organizing.

Do you have any routes in mind that would accommodate us all?

Okay guys, my goal is to tack down the route this weekend, but I need actual route suggestions, otherwise I'll stick to Clark's Grade (@giovannie23) with the difficult break off afterward.

"meet at the ranger station off hwy 38 in mentone around 830ish
leave at 9 hit 1n12 off the 38 like 1 mile from the ranger station
Takes you back up to hwy 38 in angelus oaks to the general store
Take 38 again less than a mile to seven oaks rd and catch clarks grade"

For the Plan B to Anza-Borrego (how busy is it on the weekends?), I'd like a predetermined trail route. I can put together the Clark's Grade and so on, but I will need help with the details for Anza. If Big Bear works out, the December run will be Anza, barring an outcry against it. Thoughts?

Sounds like fun. I haven't been up to BB this year. I have taken a few runs up the south side. Usually I go in through 7oaks and up 1n54. There is also Clarks Ranch where we generally see deer and Bear sign. Deer season will be over, but Bear hunting is still open. This will take you to Clarks grade/summit. The only issue is that when it snows, there is a gate at the top of Clarks grade that intersects with skyline drive and the forest service usually closes the gate.

Skyline is a nice drive with pretty scenery. Going east brings you into town around moonridge. We would usually top off tanks and eat. Then go to the other side and hit Gold Mountain--I think it is 3n69. This takes you to 3n16 and you have a choice. Go right to Jacoby canyon which then ends coming out on 18. That was one run. Or go left to 3n02 (I think) go right to either burnt flats or John Bull. Burnt flats is a fun area to explore. One way in and out, I think. There is a fresh water spring and an old apple orchard/homestead.

Lastly, if we started with Gold Mountain to Jacoby, we would take 18 to the cut off for, I think, crabflats maybe it was ( I would have to check my maps) and go to heartbreak ridge, Pontiac sluice and exit a couple of different ways. Rattlesnake or pioneer town or another cut off to 38, if I remember. Just some thoughts.

Just as QC recommended White Mountain is a nice blue square route and a nice drive there from GVL. If we do end up going this route we can start it off with a bang taking the local shortcut to the Crab Flats road - the recent rains have turned it into an "E Ticket" ride.
