November 2015 Meet and Trail Run

Would this be in addition to or in lieu of Clark's Grade? This is going to be a fun meet! :guitar3:

Agreed. Clarks grade starts south of the lake. Depending on how many rigs and any possible break times and or vehicle issues, it can be a couple of hours. Plus you can exit into town east or west, but still south of the lake. White mountain is very much NW of the lake and Jacoby is NE of the lake. I have led runs up clarks grade, over to Gold MTN, and then to Jacoby. It was a full day. I consider White mountain to be more difficult than Jacoby.
When we would be running the trails to the north of the lake, we generally meet at the discovery center. Another thought is to meet in Apple Valley/Hesperia and take trails up to Big Bear from the north to White mountain. I think it was grapevine canyon and/or 3n14. Just some thoughts.

I like the proposed of
White mountain (3N17 - black diamond - 3hrs +\-)
to
Big Pine Flat trail (3N16 - green easy - 1 1/2hrs +\- ?)
to
Jacoby canyon (3N61 - black diamond - 1hr +\-? )
ending on hwy 18 northeast of big bear.
. This rouge definately sounds like a full day. Can anyone that has made this trip before chime in regarding the difficulty and drive times associated with the route ?(i found some info but would rather hear it from someone whos done it)

I've been up White Mtn. It was a good trip. We made it with a without issues, including a stock 3rd gen. It did require some careful guidance. The stock 5th gen with step bars turned back.
Assuming no ice this would be a great trail.

Nothing says I love you like a surprise Big Bear trail run. "Hey hunny, all these other people in trucks are here to celebrate our anniversary! Surprise!" You could pull it.
I'm working on the mapping of the route, any recommendations for chow at Big Bear?

Okay, from what I'm gathering, a Clark's Grade run up to Big Bear and a White Mountain run after may be too much for one day, correct [MENTION=77357]85straight[/MENTION]? I found both of these maps on the web. I'm not sure how old the White Mountain map is, but it shows Black Diamond.
Again, my desire is for the stock guys to get their fill, with the modified rigs continuing on to bigger challenges.
Honestly, if I'm bringing the family along, they'll tire of the trails after the first half of the day.

As far as our actual route, I will do up a similar map to our last run. I also have four extra maps that I grabbed from Steve with USFS OHV that I can hand out.

Just my 2 cents, but the parking area at Green Valley Lake is a perfect meeting spot and about 1/2 hr closer than a Fawnskin start. From there start out going down Edison Rd (fun way to start) > 3N16 > Willow Canyon > 3N17 (White Mtn)
Note: The drive to White Mtn from GV is a really nice mellow ride that is perfect for the stockers to enjoy some dirt driving and have a little fun on some of the little offchutes along the way if they don't want to take on White Mtn.

I certainly don't want to change anyone's plans for another route, but I know this route getting to White Mtn would be enjoyable for all drivers & trucks. We can even take 2N13 back to GVL which is also a fun, scenic, but mellow drive and we won't have to backtrack on the same road - it's basically just a really big loop that I think would make a terrific run. The burger/malt shoppe where we start from is also a good place grind after the trip or a cold beverage at the Eagles Nest next door if you prefer.
Yes. I would be honored to lead this one if nobody else had their heart set on it.

I say I totally agree with GVL. The lake parking lot is a great meetup point. When I first ran Wht. Mtn. we started at Crab Flats trailhead. Took 3N16 into Big Pine Flats. Then went West(left)on 3N14 to 4N16 to 3N17, the Wht. Mtn. Trail. It says its a black diamond and it is past 3N11(eastbound), but its really just a blue square up until that point. What's cool is that the group can split up at this junction. Those that want a bit of a challenge can continue up 3N17. Those that don't can take 3N11 back to Big Pine Flats. Once back at BPF, you can take 3N14 into Fawnskin or 3N16 back to Green Valley Lake. Those who continued up 3N17 will eventually reconnect with 3N16. As Tim says its a big loop.

Okay, I think that's a done deal, we have a route and a trail leader. I'll refresh the first post, unless anyone disagrees. I'm thinking that I might try to go up Clark's Grade Friday and spend the night up in Big Bear.
