Yes it's Plasti dipped. You can buy the DIY kit from Dipyourcar.com It's really not that hard, you just have to make sure everything is masked off properly.

How's the plastidip holding up? Have you had to do any touch ups?

It's holding up great! I had a chance to wheel about a month ago and it held up great to all the tree branches on the trails. It's on there good about 8 coats worth and i don't see it coming off unless i pull it off. Also washing it is soo much easier now because i don't have to worry about drying it or waxing it or anything, i just wash it and let it dry no water spots or anything.As far as Dipping the only areas you have to be careful with is around the windows and other areas near where you tape off, the key is to try to pull the tape off before the dip dries if not you have to be very careful because the dip sticks to the tape and can tear it off the door. This happen to me in two small places, but i took a little paint thinner and made sure the areas were sealed up good! I ended up with a lot more texture in certain areas more then others,this is due to doing to many light coats. The key is to start off doing light coats 4-5 and then the rest should go on heavier and you'll end up with a smoother finish. If your going to do this you should spend some time on the dipyourcar.com forum there's a lot of good info on there,i wish i would have before i did mine!

So far it's held up great and my other friend i have personally take a hit from a tree on the trail and put a dent in his FJ and plasti dip still held up! I've used a pressure washer and brush at the DIY car washes and just a hose and a brush in the drive way.

So it's been about 1 year since i got my 4Runner so i figured i would take some updated 1 Year Pics.
Upcoming Mods
I'm going to be adding a daystar 1.5" spacer on the rear drivers side to correct the lean. I'll also be raising up the front 1" once the new bumper goes on which i'm currently waiting on my front bumper from AOR! I Have a Warn M8000 with synthetic line ready to be installed in that once that arrives along with a Factor 55 flatlink. Other than that i just have to finish my rear extended brake lines and extended bumpstops to complete my rear long travel so i'll finally be able to disconnect the rear sway bar when wheeling!

Are you still planing on getting that CBI hybrid rear with the tire carrier? I want one so bad its not even funny.

Ahh i reallu want/need a rear bumper too especially now with the new wheel/tire size i don't think the spare will fit underneath(well i haven't tried yet but i thought i remember reading somewhere that you can't) I'm not sure if i'm going to go with the CBI hybrid rear bumper,I like it a lot I just feel like they could have done a little more for the sides! That's really the only part i don't love, well that and the price of it with the tire carrier haha. I talked to them about finishing off the sides more but that'll be custom and be even more expensive so now your talking probably close to $2k for a rear hybrid bumper which is a little crazy! There is another company i've spoken to directly that is supposed to be doing a hybrid for our 4th Gens but it won't be going into the works for at least a couple more months.Also i can't really put the name of the company out there just yet cause they don't want to get bombarded with million questions about it yet until it's done. So i'm going to wait and see how that turns out and then go from there. Only other option is find a really good welder/fabricator and have them build one,but they would have to be really good because i would want to take the chance of having one built if it wasn't exactly what i wanted! I think with the few that i've seen built plus the CBI hybrid somebody would have some really good references though!
Your truck looks nice! I saw it yesterday while sitting in traffic at the toll both for the I90-I87 interchange in Albany. I was in the black limited. We bought our 4Runner about a month ago after 2 months of searching. It's a PITA to find a good example, with low mileage, at a reasonable price. I ended up flying to Cincinnati and driving it home. Our intentions are to keep that as my wifes car for a few years before modifying it for overland/expedition travel.
With all of this being said, in your earlier posts you mentioned that your 4Runner was going to me modified with the intent of it still being a daily driver. How has this gone for you? Do you still find that it is a reasonable daily driver even after suspension mods, larger tires, your interior mods? I want to convince my wife to start with mild modification in the spring time next year but I need to keep in mind that this is her daily driver for 2 or 3 years before anything major is to happen.

Ah cool man, yeah there was a little bit of traffic up there yesterday. I'm originally from up there so i'm up there a lot on weekends. It's finding one with almost everything you want. I got lucky and found 2 at once in Mass and ended up settling with the one with a little more miles but that certified, so at least i have that if anything major happens for the next little while and i was thinking about extending it?
Well it's held up ok i guess haha the mod bug def got a hold of me and haven't really stopped since! It's still good for a daily driver i mean do i still get as good of gas mileage as i used too Noo but i'm ok with that. It all depends on what your intended uses are going to be for? I like to wheel my truck so i need the extra protection of steel skids bigger tires etc but if your doing more expedition stuff then you pry won't need as much or as strong armor. There's a lot of different options like aluminum skids or less thick steel ones. It really depends on what your going to be using your 4runner for ? When i first did a mild lift and not as big tires i got a little better gas mileage and i was still pretty capable both off and on road. Especially if your wife's going to be driving it i would just start off with some simple interior Mods and then go from there. My wife hates now when she has to hop up in the 4runner to get in haha

Also how bad is the glare on the hood from you led bar?

I had this kid do it for me because i'm not the best when it comes to electrical and wiring, he ran it all to the back and thru the stock location in the top of the rear hatch. It turned out pretty clean i'm happy with it.
I haven't really noticed much of the hood glare from it. I'm sure it's there but the times i have used it it's never been a issue. Also i have a matte finish now so i'm sure that helps eliminate it if there was any..

Just looking through the 4th gen section looking for inspiration to maybe get the 4th gen build going again...you know maybe some plastidip body panels,....but then....hey wait that's me way back there in the clunky grey dogg 1st gen. We were in some of the same groups at Rausch with 6Sons, TheBus, Justin, C4 and the gang. If you remember me I was down there with both my 1st and 4th gen. Awesome time. We should get more 4Runners down there next year. This was a premier event.
