That trailer is pretty awesome! I really wish I had a welder so I could do some fab work on my rig. That is going to be my next tool purchase.

Did you do the plasti dip yourself or have it done professionally. It looks really good and I love that color. I've been thinking of doing mine, but I get nervous because of all the trees around here. If they can scratch the paint on the oem finish, I feel like it would just rip chunks off. Do you have any experience with it?

Thanks man. It's been a fun learning process building the trailer and the perfect project to learn how to weld on. You should definitely pick one up it's great to be able to fab your own stuff up! I'm going to get the 4x4 labs DIY rear bumper, i figure now that i can weld mid as well weld up my own bumper up. I thought about building my own but i don't know if I'm that confident in my fab skills yet haha plus i just love the 4x4 labs bumper!

Yes i did the plasti dip myself, my buddy has the gun so i just bought the gallons. It's pretty easy to do it's just all the prep work that takes a bit.I'm probably going to re do it again this summer (same color) I know i love that color to! It's held up fine but i just feel like i rushed it a bit the first time i did it so i figured i'll hit it with a few more gallons over whats already on there just to freshen it up. It's really tough though, I've been down plenty of tight trails here in the northeast and it's held up great against all the tree branches including hitting a actual tree that dented my rear driver side door and it still held up against that!

Diff swap day!!! Well yesterday but it was a good day all in all. Everything went smooth, we only ended up snapping two bolt thru out the entire day ( nothing that couldn't be remedied. Other than that it really wasn't as bad as I expected, it was definitely a big job and took 3 of us all day ( with breaks here and there) I think the parking brake was the biggest pita at the end of the job of course. I definitely wouldn't have been able to do it with out my to buddy's who have done multiple re builds and swaps on both 4th gens and FJs[emoji1373]

Now for the break in period. I have to run the super thick diff fluid in it for 500 miles and then change it. I can't drive more than 50 miles at a rip without letting it cool for 20-25 minutes, and can't really go faster than 60 mph so highways are going to be fun for the next couple of weeks lol should have it broken in and changed before FJNE at Rausch Creek in a couple of weeks. I have the Elocker harness connected to the 3rd and ran it into the back hatch but I still have to run it up to the front of the cab and wire up the switch later this week. I'm still going to take it easy for another 500 miles probably after the initial break in and than change the fluid again so I won't be wheeling to hard at this upcoming trip. No biggie I'll be happy to toe the trailer down and get some good camping in and a little wheeling!

Since I've been driving like Grandma since yesterday I haven't really been able to compare the difference to my normal driving style. But I will say it definitely feels peppier and also going up hills either on the highways or regular road it doesn't want or have to down shift at all it just climbs no problem maintaining its current speed. It's pretty awesome I can't wait until after the break in so I can drive a little more normal and also off the pavement. Excited to have this done, this is a huge step in the build! I will have more of a update in a couple of weeks after me trip.

It looks like just dropping the whole front diff, and changing the clam on the ground be easier.

Thanks bud! Yeah it seemed to work pretty good, actually getting everything out and in one piece was way easier and went smoother than i expected. For the front clam we had to play with it a little to get it at just the right angle to get the new one back up in there.

Looks good! Glad you were able to get it all back together without too much trouble. How tough were those external torx bolts to get out? Mine were surprisingly tight, and had to sit on them with an impact for about 30-45 seconds. Really surprised me. I just got through the 500 miles and it is nice to be able to drive it like I stole it again haha. Definitely a difference once you are able to get on it.

damn i really want to do my gears now. but i gotta put it off alittle longer, probably till july/august since i just spent 460 having my exhaust redone and now i gotta put a new quarter window in the drivers side and fix my flare on the passenger side, i now trust trees even less than before. i cant wait to get my 4.56s, driving out to the OHV cruise control was hunting gears the entire time, and fighting a head wind i averaged 11.1...

Thanks,, Yes me too! Everything worked out very well so glad we were able to get it all done in one day. Then again we were working like a pit crew at times especially towards the end of the day when we were burning daylight. The Torx weren't too bad actually and everything came out surprisingly easy, Yeah wow sounds like yours were really on there! That's awesome, I know it kinda of sucks having to drive everywhere at grandma speed. But i'm going to out a good amount of miles on the truck over the next week and a half ( with cool down intervals of course at every 50 miles) so i should be good to change my fluid next week which is perfect timing before my trip to go wheeling and camping with the trailer. I'm still going to take it easy this trip anyways just because i'll be fresh off the break in period so i'm not going to be wheeling too hard.

Honestly man i don't know why i waited this long to do it?! Especially for what we use are trucks for it's the best upgrade by far especially with the extra added benefit of the locker. Yeah i hear ya though always something it never ends,, the loundry list of mods is constantly growing. I feel like overtime i get 1 or 2 good mods done 3 or 4 more get added on the list haha. Yes i know all to well about trees, they always win the fight, my passenger door can attest to that. Oh its great though man,, i haven't gotten to truly test it out but the little bit of driving i have done involving any hills it just wants to go no searching for any gears!

Yeah damn man that's shity! It's always like that isn't it. The rear quarters on our trucks always seem to be prone to taking the most damage.

Thanks man. I'm in manhattan now (midtown east) but i lived out in brooklyn for about 10 years in Williamsburg (before it became trendy and cool). Where about are you? You should come out with us some time! I wheel with a lot of guys in CT an MA, were also going to Rauch Creek in a couple weeks for a 3-4 day run FJ Northeasters fun event!

i feel like when i have a local fabshop down here do my rear bumper i might look into some kind of riser tube of some sort to keep those damn dirty trees off my quarter panels. maybe bolt on like a ladder would so they could be optional on a marketable version. i always feel like we need more sheetmetal armor like the wranglers have.

That's exactly what i'm doing with my rear bumper! I'm getting push bars on the top of the sides of the bumper, exactly like [MENTION=47269]Darklight[/MENTION] has on his. That should at least help a little but in those tight situations.

Oh ok cool, i know it and have been down there a bunch. My ex is from Bensenhurst and she lived down in bay ridge for a while, i also used to date this russian girl years ago but she was in brighton.

Yeah for sure man i'll definitely keep you in the loop. I know NY is pretty limiting as far as wheeling goes. I know a spot in NJ that we do day trips to sometimes it's about 30-45 min and its got some decent trails nothing crazy. I've never been to wharton, heard it's a lot of sand and water which i don't really care for so i'd rather stick to the trails and rocks(a little mudds ok here and there) But we hit up some pretty awesome trails up in CT and Mass but those are a little farther, a couple of the ones in CT can be day trips but still 1-2 hours away. We have a ton of maps too from NH and VT but that's more like a 2-3 day weekend thing. I'm doing to events later in the season too that you should look into there a lot of fun! One is Moose on the loose in Maine it's a 4-5 day team event/challnge and the other is New Hampshire overland challenge, which i did last year. Both are overland based events that are point to point destination everyday and there are challenges along the way that you have to complete as a team and their points based events. Tons of fun and if you've never been overlanding it's closet thing to is in a 4-5 day event. I think theres usually about 20 teams each. I know MOTL is already filled up but i'm pretty sure NHOC still has spots open which takes place in September.

Looking good up in here. Lots of progress. Did you regear and add a front locker or just the 4.56's? Those are going to treat you pretty good to, so it's worth it even if you didn't lock it up front.

Got the lid fitted up yesterday and primed everything. Now all that's left to do is the lights, latches, paint and rack for the RTT.

Loving the trailer man! Freaking sweet. We were planning on going to Moab Rock Therapy and thought about getting a trailer with an RTT but it was way out of budget. Making one is pretty cool. Instead for the time being I may get an ARB awning and a room tent. eep:
