O2 sensor exhaust bung?

Ok many questions here.....

First off I have a '99 2WD 2.7L 4-banger.

I've noticed that the T4R seems to have a flange with gasket instead of a threaded bung in the exhaust for the O2 sensor. I need to replace the section of pipe behind the cat as it is rotting away. I have a newish muffler. The pipe between the CAT and muffler is bad. Also the flange downstream of the cat needs to be replaced as it has rotted away. I was looking for suggestions other than spending more than the truck is worth replacing the whole exhaust system. Is it possible to just have a new section of pipe put in and a normal threaded O2 bung welded in and replace the downstream O2 with one that is threaded? Looking for solutions that aren't very expensive. Could I replace the downstream O2 with an emulated O2 sensor? I'm assuming the Downstream O2 only serves to check the function of the CAT. Does anyone know for sure?
