Obama: US has always paid it's bills

BrianSD_42, is it just a percentage of your paycheck that goes towards the GI Bill? Appreciate the advice. I'm not too worried about the transition to the civilian world though. I'm a network engineer for a good company and I think my skillset will continue to be in demand for a while.

Again, I sympathize with the people who work hard and can't get the medical coverage they need. On the other hand, there are so many people that exploit many kinds of state/federal benefits and its ridiculous. I've accepted the fact that there are people in the US who actually choose to depend on the government for many things, and I hope this shutdown is nothing more than a wake up call to those people. But seriously, I hope everyone does their own research when they think the government runs large programs well.

Seriously though, I'm so sick of people at Winco buying $200+ of stuff with food stamps and putting it in their blinged out Escalade in a freaking handicapped parking spot because they're fat.

When you said you were going OCS I figured you were going active duty as an officer.

If that is the case then 6 years will go by before you can get out, correct?

If your officer job in whatever branch is network engineering then you will probably stay on top of things but if you are going to be a command officer, one who rotates jobs over the six years, meaning rotates departments then you will lose your networking skills or they will at a minimum be a distant thing.

If you have any chance at getting some college money, even if you already have a degree then take it. The way the gi bill for enlisted works is you pay ina low amount like $1200 over one year (in 2000) and you get $40,000 in college money.

Your wife can use the money and so can your kids.

I have spoken with several officers who wished they had the college money program because they now feel stuck.

The only thing you can criticize the VA health care system for its that veterans are facing a delay of getting rated for disability.

However that has nothing to do with health care services provided by the VA. Had you recently served, you would know that all vets who are stationed oversees are eligible for up to 2 years of 100% complete VA health coverage with a primary doctor and it also covers any sickness even if it was not service related.

I have been to the VA hospital and used these services myself and they benefit other vets on this forum as well.

Simply put you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yeah, worked in emergency medicine transporting MANY vets of all ages to local VA hospitals. As well as being one of only two family members who had to assist my dying grandfather with interactions & appointments at the VA......I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Let me expand that to say now I work with the VA at a whole new level. In short, I am in the commercial/industrial boiler/burner business. In the past 10 years I have had 5 different VA hospitals as clients. Let's just say that the cronyism & corruption is alive & well within the VA system, witnessed first hand.....yeah, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

You are not understanding, I'm not saying they do not benefit vets at all. What I am saying is that the services are substandard, the facilities are VERY substandard, and they are grossly mismanaged. Combined with corruption and cronyism you have very accurate cross-section of the federal governments inability to effectively & efficiently manage ANYTHING.

keep your blinders on, just like the rest of the liberals. Unfortunately your single dimensional understanding of the government and it's grotesquely mismanaged systems has lead you to this skewed perception/opinion.

I thank you and appreciate your service to our country. Please do yourself (and the rest of us) one last service and try to understand we cannot rely on the federal government to mange anything effectively/efficiently. Your acceptance of Obamacare is indicative of a lack of understanding related to just how bad the systems already in place are managed, and that is very disappointing.....

I agree completely.

Having personally seen how 'efficient' and 'competent' a VA Hospital is, or actually is not, your post is spot on with my experience.

I could go on with a bunch of stories of a friend of mine that was a WW2 Vet., and his treatment at the VA, but I don't have all day to type. I'll just say I rushed him to the VA on a handful of occasions, and heard about the other instances when I wasn't around to take him.

He often told me that it was a well known Government saying during WW2, to say regarding the service men; "Nothing is too good for our boys".

It took him only a short time to realize, that that's EXACTLY what they meant.

RIP, Frank. It was an honor knowing you.
Frank Gregrich Obituary - Tooele, UT - Utah Obituaries | ObitsUtah.com

My own Father is a Korean War Vet. I have stories of his experience with the VA too. The upside with my Dad, is that he eventually had a civilian job, and good health care that wasn't administered by an overloaded, inefficient, cronyistic, and corrupt Government bureaucracy.

Admitedly I only read the first 2 pages of this thread but I got the gist of most posters comments which fall into the "It's all Obama's fault" category. I suggest you re-think your finger pointing. The truth is it's politics and the voters can suck it.

Remember Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's statement: "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." and after President Obama was re-elected he said "That's my single most important political goal, along with every active Republican in the country." The same guy that had no problem approving increased debt limits under Republican rule including 18 times under Ronald Reagan and seven times under George W. Bush is now opposed to raising the debt ceiling. If you Obama haters want to blame someone at least be honest about who's causing this mess.

Pure American politics, it's okay when it's our guy but when it's the other party it's unacceptable.

I think the big disconnect is that refer to all the VA as if they are all bad because of the few hospitals you visited. Some probably are bad but many are quite good. The same thing could absolutely be said about private hospitals around the country.

You talk about cronyism and other problems with the VA. I actually believe that the VA should change it's hiring and firing practices so it is easier to let go people who don't deserve their job. But most of those people are a part of the VA administration and not the nurses and doctors at the hospital.

At my local VA hospital we have doctors who work multiple hospitals including private ones throughout the week.

There is plenty of cronyism with private health care. $6 charges for a single aspirin pill? $1000 operating room cleaning fees? The fact is that private hospitals make these charges up entirely or inflate the prices making healthcare unaffordable.

Based on your grandfathers experience with the VA would have rather pulled him out and paid for it yourself? If you have another family member with problems you can always just pay for their private care out of your own pocket. I doubt you would because VA is such a great price $0 and private care is hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also like I said before private care isn't that great in many cases. It depends on your zip code.

What is it about a liberal that prevents them from comprehending the full message & all the facts?

Oh I know "Admittedly I only read the first 2 pages" You should run for public office, you are already qualified as a Democrat/liberal just by using that statement!

Furthermore, it is my contention that ALL of the federal government that is failing us as a whole. True, the progressive/liberal/socialist/communist agenda has been eroding the conservative values that built this country and I continuously harp on that fact. Obama is simply the guy who has pushed the progressive/liberal/socialist/communist agenda the most/fastest.

We have been pushed too far, now the left is catching serious heat.

WHY ARE YOU REDIRECTING??????????

We are discussing the extremely poor job the federal government does managing anything.

Ive visited/dealt with 5 different VA hospitals in New England on multiple different levels (Emergency Medicine, Vendor/Contractor, Personal care issues with my Grandfather). Unless you're career and have been station all over the US I'd say I have dealt with more VA hospitals in more levels than most. 5 in New England (in the most populated areas) is a good enough cross section that I feel comfortable making those statements.

To speak briefly to your private sector comment: The exaggerated cost/charges of healthcare is due (in large part) to so many going to the hospital for anything/everything and not even trying to pay for it. Obamacare is simply going to take my already expensive (but quality) care and make it significantly more expensive (and drop the quality exponentially). Dont try and say it wont, IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN TO PAY FOR ALL OF THE LEACHES TO GET CARE :frusty:

My Grandfather is gone so woulda/shoulda/coulda means nothing moving forward.

That is what is happening now!!! I've said it at least twice in this thread already. Obamacare is going to force those freeloaders to pay for themselves! That's why, by the CBO's own report obamacare is going to save money. :frusty:

Again, the liberal angle is "hypothetical/exaggerated/false" claims. How about all of you guys use FACTS and but the BS.

From Forbes: Double Down: Obamacare Will Increase Avg. Individual-Market Insurance Premiums By 99% For Men, 62% For Women - Forbes

I pay $800/month for my families insurance. It is likely going to increase to $1000+ next year (as told by management, the Forbes article follows that projection). All the while millions more dirtbag leaches will be smiling with government subsidized healthcare.

So, you make no distinction between the unchecked abuse (now) and open abuse (Obamacare)? You are terribly mistaken if you think freeloaders are going to pay for ANYTHING. Giving them open access to healthcare is NOT the answer. You and I both know their payment/cost will be based on their income, just like EVERY OTHER government subsidy. And just like EVERY OTHER government subsidy program the leaches will have it figured out in no time, getting it for $2 a month, all while buying butts & beer with their EBT card, talking on the $200-$400 iPhone, 4 kids, tattoos, jewelry, blah blah blah.....SOP for the vast majority of welfare recipients. Now that they have a fancy new Obamacare card they will use NO discipline (if they ever did before) with doctors visits & such, demanding everything under the stars for their stubbed toe. All the while I get penalized because I actually have my own policy.

Doctors are closing their practices, retiring early, new doctors are pissed beyond belief, why is that???? Must be because Obamacare is going to be sooooo great:
http://www.wnd.com/2013/07/obamacare-has-doctors-planning-exit/

The solution is not to give it away intentionally, it is to cut off the leaches. Hard decisions I know, but that is the way that it is.

OK, so this has officially become a serious :deadhorse: session. If you liberals don't get it by now then you're not going to get it :bash:

Enjoy this world of $hit you helped create.

You do realize that a truly liberal plan would have been single payer insurance like Canada has right?

Forced payment into corporate private insurance is no more liberal than it is libertarian.

But yes go on believing that the O-Care private mandate and universal coverage, an idea originally created by the Heritage Foundation, is some liberal commi plan that will destroy America.

//end sarcasm//

Obamacare is a Ponzi scheme, like Social Security.

They are betting on young people, who are otherwise healthy and would never typically utilize insurance, to suddenly get motivated by celebrities like Katy Perry to buy policies that cost 5-7k a year and have 2500 dollar deductibles on hospitalizations. I know that I'm not brilliant like Obama, but just how many 20-30 year olds, with no money, are going to spend 6 grand of money they don't have on a health plan they don't plan on using? Of course there is a "penalty" of less than a hundred bucks the first year, then a few hundred the next--so they will suddenly be motivated to spend a few THOUSAND dollars to avoid a few HUNDRED dollar penalty?

If the young people don't buy into the exchanges, to offset the subsidized cost of heavy utilizers, like seniors and chronically ill, the government will continue to increase the rates of those of us who already have good health plans (or Cadillac plans like the garbage in DC calls it, while exempting their own Cadillac plans from being taxed) to lower the costs for the exchanges. They will also continue to slash doctor reimbursement and increase the taxes on medical device manufacturers. Of course if you're on welfare and entitled, you still won't have to bother to buy health care, that will continue to be free. Insurance companies will have a cap on how much they can jack up rates each year, but that doesn't take effect until later so they're already raising rates.

Let's not even start to discuss how employers are cutting more and more employees to less than 30 hours so they don't have to provide them health care and making sure they don't have more than 50 employees--so they're limiting hires.

This is another shit scam written by idiot politicians and shoved onto the nation under the socialist auspices of "fairness."

http://www.sfgate.com/business/netw...-can-net-huge-health-care-subsidy-4891087.php ...this is my favorite link. If your new Obamacare premiums are too high, just "adjust your income" read: EARN LESS to get huge savings and subsidies. That's right, the Government is rewarding, even encouraging you to be poor. There is becoming less and less motivation to work in this country, as we continue to expand safety nets for those who can't even be bothered to wake up early each day and take care of themselves.

Our country is in the shitter. If you dare criticize this wonderful plan, Obama parades out people who are sick and are suddenly and miraculously saved from Republicans and CERTAIN DEATH by his wonderful health plan.

I look forward to an emergence of a cash only private medical system in this country, where goods and services are upfront, exempt from any government meddling, and you can opt to PAY for quality medical care and doctors are appropriately reimbursed and not nickel and dimed by greedy insurance companies and politicians (and I guess the IRS now fits in there, too).

"What you may not know is that the Affordable Care Act is also beginning, with little fanfare, to accomplish its second great goal: to promote reforms to our overpriced, underperforming health care system. Irony of ironies, the people who ought to be most vigorously applauding this success story are Republicans, because it is being done not by government decree but almost entirely with market incentives."

Obamacare is so good, the people who wrote it opted out of it.

True . there was once talk of a public option so we citizens could use the same type of government non profit health care as our congressmen BUT conservatives rallied against the idea and Obama capitulated faster than the French army.

If something doesn't personally benefit me, it's horrible legislation.

America, Land of Me.

America, Land of Me.

It's legislation concerning health care and medicine drafted by politicians and lawyers.

Ask anyone in the health care industry just how devastating and incompetent the ACA is.
