So I've done some googling, and I haven't found anything quite like my issue.
On my 2010 SR5, a few weeks back I added a new dual horn to replace the meep meep horn. It was a brand new horn off a 2016 2500HD. I put a 4 pin, 40 amp relay on it, and used the original horn wire as a the trigger. I then put a 20amp fuse between the battery and the relay.
Yesterday morning, I get in the truck to go to work and turn the key and it doesn't even try to start. No clicks, no lights, nothing. I think "wow, its completely dead overnight" The battery is almost brand new, 2/17 and its worked perfect since I put the horn in, up until now. I called a friend to come and give me a jump (which I questioned weather that would even work with how dead it appeared)
While I waited, I went and grabbed my multimeter to check battery voltage and it was at 12.6! So being that the horn was the only thing I have done to my truck's electrical system I pulled the 20A fuse for it, and tried to start and it started right up. Checked voltage again, at cold idle and it was 14.0-14.2 which seemed normal. I've left the fuse out, since then and it hasn't missed a beat. I haven't had time since to try and replicate the problem, and do some tests. I plan to play with it tonight, or tomorrow.
I just wondered if anyone had ever heard of this, or had any suggestions as to what to test specifically. I've had relays DRAIN a battery, which is what I initially thought, but my battery wasn't drained. In fact after I got to work, I tested the battery and it still said 96% life remaining, no dead cells and 569 out of 575CCA remained. The only part of my trucks original wiring that's involved in this is the single green horn wire, being used on the trigger pin of the relay. I ran new wiring for everything else. I'm stumped as to how anything involved with this part could PREVENT the truck from starting.
