Oddly difficult to find.

I almost feel dumb having to ask this, but these stupid little bolts that hold on the rear spoiler/wind deflector above the rear window are impossible to track down. I had a few missing whenever I bought my truck, and I wanted to get them all back to attached and matching. However, even the dealership states that they cannot get them any longer as, apparently, that ubiquitous rear spoiler was a 3rd party made, factory option, and they cannot get the bolts.

So, I attempted to take a few into the local hardware stores to see if I could find a match, and it has been a no go. I want them to have that same powdery black finish that won't scratch off or rust, but honestly, even finding the same size has been impossible. I can find them in the same thread and diameter, but the lengths are always far too long or way too short, and they're never black.

Any ideas, or even a source for these silly things? I found a "brass" set that was just a hair shorter but not by much, but they are for ceiling fans and began rusting within about 2 weeks. No bueno... I want the real thing.

Ace hardware has them in stainless steel. Mines Were rusted and I just swapped them out.

Taking your ceiling fan bolt to any hardware store and find one that matches...? If you're lazy (I am) you can even play dumb and have the helper guy help you.

Man, I miss Ace Hardware. Ours closed down about 2 years ago, and that's where I got all of my automotive fasteners and bolts prior to their shutting down.

I race dirtbikes, and bolts are rattled out on the regular. I always kept a gangload of spares for just about every part in a spare box. I got all of them from Ace for pennies on the dollar compared to buying anything through Yamaha dealerships.

I guess I need to make a trip to the next town over. Lowe's, Fastenall, and Home Depot have come up fruitless.

They are not a rare size but the factory (or 3rd party) screw has a bit of a self tapping end. This end would be difficult to find but it's not necessary. I believe the size is an M6 or M8 as I just purchased some for my deflector install.

The harder part to find would be the concave plastic washer. The closest thing I could find were screw washers and they wouldn't work. I ended up rehabbing 3 of the washers and using a rubber washer for the forth screw. When they are installed you can't make out the difference.

Can't you just cut down the "far too long" screws? Run a die through it first to clean up the threads after cutting.

I love my Ace Hardware, it's closer than the big stores and right next door to the liquor store I frequent,kill 2 birds with one stone :biggrin2: They have also have stainless hardware perfect for OEM fog lights,even springs for the aiming adjusters (though they're not SS)

I didn't even realize that they came with a washer, but a plastic layer between the two metals seems logical. I'll see if I can fab someting up.

I could cut them down, but if they're a coated bolt to prevent corrosion, then you're somewhat defeating that purpose once you cut it open and expose the raw metal to moisture.

If only Ace were still a few blocks away from my house... and stocked Arrogant Bastard Ale.
