WOw sounds like I should try to make you a deal on a 4Runner full of all my CD's from the 90's that I have ripped to MP3?:tongue1: A heavily modded sports car was my story about before we had kids... but that sadly has been sold now as life has sifted gears.

Thank so much for the feedback. Probably won't be the last you hear from me if I run into something on the install might ask how you did it or such. But Daniel seems as cool as everyone here says and I imagine they'll take good care of whatever help I need.

I ordered and am now awaiting shipment on their new dual AMP SP setup with the dedicated bass amp to increase headroom and overall field. I am very excited to get mine reading your post I am curious how XM sounds on yours. I never had XM before but am falling in love with it during my all access trial. 34 Lithium is playing me tunes I haven't heard in 20 years (paranoid android on the way to work this AM) and it is so great but too bad the sound is so crappy in the OE setup.

Also curious whether anyone on the site has installed the new SP setup which I understand from them has only been shipping since April.

They tried to sell me on the separate amp for the sub but I didn't think the value was there. Separate adjustability would be nice but not for the money they wanted.

In my humble opinion XM quality is garbage. They compress the absolute heck out of their streams because they have such limited satellite bandwidth. It's something like 40kbps, compared to 320kbps from a high quality Spotify download, or 1,400kbps from a CD. Some of their channels run good song lineups but the quality is just dreadful.

I installed mine this past weekend. It was a conversion from my Tacoma I sold, so Im judging what Im hearing on that. Which, BTW, sounded great. Few questions just to see how things measure up to those who have it installed. Do you feel like the 6x9s have too much bass and interfere with the sub? Maybe they lack some midrange frequencies. It feels like the system is very oriented to the front speakers, leaving the rears a little thin.

on the factory HU, what settings are you using? I cant seem to dial in a good setting for most music (MP3 320kbps source).

For those that did sound dampening, how do you feel it affected the sound?

How hot does your amp get in general?

Is your sub affected by the fade on the HU?

Haven't installed mine yet but OEMAudio says the head unit settings are best left flat as the DSP amps are tuned for "reference audio" They recommend leaving the head unit settings flat for a few weeks and listen to it that way to "reset your pallet" so to speak as it apparently will grow on you. Can't attest to that personally but that is what I was told when I asked them that same question.

Thats what I was told too but seems very inconsistent between songs compared to my previous taco. All mp3s (320kbps) are ripped from CD that Ive tested. Ill give it a few days but seems the front 6x9s are too much leaving the sub kinda dry. If I try and turn bass up it really jacks the music. I listen to metal and rock mostly. Ill keep tinkering. Im worried the sound dampening is removing the mid and high frequencies too much =|

Weird to quote myself but had another thought. Did you notice whether the 6x9's magnet was substantially smaller than the magnet on the coaxial speakers? (check the product number on the box the 6x9's were packed in... is it 32-2015?) If so, this may be something to do with the fact that OEMAudio+ apparently just started shipping 6x9's made with neodymium rare magnet. They say this to keep the performance level high while saving mounting space because the rare magnet is much smaller and lighter yet performs as well or better than the standard large heavy magnets in the coaxials. I asked them out of curiosity because the 6x9's magnet wasn't much bigger than the OEM magnets. Anyway, could be the BASS heavy mix you are hearing is because the fronts are "outperforming" the other speakers and I wonder if that is true whether all of the speakers would need to be replaced with neodymium rare magnet speakers in order to balance it out... HMMM I guess we'll have to see once I get wround to installing mine if I experience the same front heavy mix as you. Meanwhile you could ask OEMAudio plus about this if your front are like mine.

I listened to an OEM Reference setup in a Tacoma at the OEM Audio booth at FJ Summit last week and hate to say...I was pretty underwhelmed. I listened to their entire demo CD across multiple genres of music and just never found myself wow'ed in the least. It just sounded like a slightly better factory car stereo, like a Bose or Harmon Kardon. More than anything, it seemed like the system was seriously underpowered and especially lacking in low end punch, which I found shocking considering the dedicated sub. I was told that there are different listening profiles, but I didn't get a chance to play with any eQ settings or profiles. Maybe the 4Runner sounds better, but I just couldn't fathom spending $1700 based on what I heard.

My 6x9 was the smaller one (neodymium). This could be the issue. It seemed like I didnt have to dial in the Tacoma as much with various music genres like I do on this set up. Daniel asked me to send him a few songs for them to check out on their system. I also used sound dampening but would think it would eliminate issues.

When I had my tacoma I dialed it in and it sounded clear and punchy. I listen to rock and metal mostly but all the genres I listened to sounded considerably better than stock.

I experienced the same thing when I had it installed in my previous 4runner (2014) with third row. I talked to Daniel about it after I sold my 4runner 4 months after installing the OEM audio plus. To me it wasn't worth uninstalling and OEM audio plus when I sold, my issues were the Bass seemed to not be as punchy as I would have liked on some songs I had to turn the volume down so it wouldn't vibrate my panels(even after trying velcro to the sub etc) Some songs I could turn up to level 13 or so and it sounded good and plenty loud, other songs I was back up to like 30 to make it sound good. I felt like I was playing around with the settings (EQ) more with the OEM audio plus than the regular stock system. I might give it another chance in my new 4runner, but haven't pounced on it quickly because I was a little underwhelmed the first go around and hesitant to throw more money at it to be dissapointed again.

yep. the 500Q black amp is the newer 2018 version with a newer connector. got it confirmed by OEMAudio+. the silver one shown in the install video is an older version with older connection type. the black amp has the newer one connector with the purple locking mechanism. you can connect a secndary amp for a second subwoofer to this black amp. sold separately by OEM+.

Daniel had me send him a few songs for his tech guys to look at on their vehicle. Im tempted to reinstall the factory 6x9s to see the difference. Im going to try and tweak with some eq settings on my ipod and see what happens.

Have you tried playing an actual audio CD (assuming you have one as I know optical media has gone the way of the DODO pretty much)? Because I think CD would be the highest quality lowest compression balanced source and give you truest idea vs. Ipod just to test output.

I'm really interested to hear how this ends up because mine is sitting in box in my garage waiting to get installed.... working on finishing my deck past few weekends so haven't been able to get to it. Hopefully you'll get the scoop from OEMA+ before I'm ready to put mine in. I also bought into the accessory meter mod harness and am waiting another week or so for the display part... so hoping to do it all in a weekend.

+1. XM sucks. It sounds like heavily compressed MP3 being played by and AM radio station. It just is terrible. Flat and anemic sounding. I never understood people who pay to listen to crappy sounding music. If listening to talk radio or news than its fine. Many friends of mine have it just for Howard Stern.

Do you know when Daniel is supposed to get back to you about their test results using your music? I still think it has to be the new neodymium magnet 6x9's are "outperforming" the traditional magnet coaxial drivers in the four rear speaker locations. [MENTION=139465]Ohio Hawk[/MENTION] did a very thorough write-up a few pages back and says everything seemed very balance. It is not clear in that write-up whether the 6x9's are rare magnets or not. I wonder if [MENTION=139465]Ohio Hawk[/MENTION] could comment?

I am really eager to hear all of this before installing mine... I actually bought the + system with the dedicate 2nd amp to exclusive run the sub and that has a dedicated gain knob. I wonder if that will give more flexibility and headroom. Anyway, as I said before... keep me posted as you find out more.
