OEM Audio + 5th Gen 4Runner audio system

I've had everything installed and running for about 4 days now. It's been stated numerous times that this system is night and day better than the stock system and I concur. It's not an "upgrade," it's an entirely different and better experience. The sound is very well balanced and the clarity is insane. I'm definitely going to save for a HiRes media player to take it to the next level. The bass from the dual subs is DEEP and again, well balanced and symmetrical. It punches as much I'd ever want with the gain turned all the way up. I've been running the subs at approx 45% power for most all of my music. Anymore than that and the bass does tend to overpower the vocals.

Today, I tested it with one sub on an hour drive and honestly, that's probably all I needed. I'm sure the dedicated amp and gain control make all the difference with the one sub system. I don't regret buying the dual subs at all, but given the chance to buy again I'd get the dedicated sub amp and spend that extra $400 on something else. The second sub definitely takes the bass to another level and makes the whole system feel more... full? (I think that's the word I'm looking for). I just don't really NEED that next level bass at this point in my life I guess. I'm not sure what else to say about the two vs one sub... there is a clear difference but I'd imagine the one sub with dedicated amp would be enough for most people on this forum.

I did do some minimal sound deadening on the doors and door panels. Eventually I'll take those panels back off and cover more of the panels. I don't know how much this affected the sound and bass.

I can't consider myself an audiophile, but I do love music and I listen to almost every genre imaginable. I've never had a good audio system in a vehicle to compare this to. Never really had the disposable income to do it until now. I do have a really nice setup in my house. This system obviously doesn't compare to that, but I can't imagine audio in a vehicle sounding much better without spending a lot more money. I did spend $2,400 and I do not regret it one bit. I'll get to enjoy this every single day.

Thanks for updating your thoughts on the one vs two subs. I keep trying to talk myself into buying the OEM system and find myself second guessing doing this or going to a local shop for a different install. For the money this seems to be the way to go. Well it's for my 2020 which I don't have yet, the system came a lot faster than I expected as I was originally quoted around 4 weeks, it arrived in 8 days. I'll post my thoughts once I get it installed.

Personally I wouldn't let a "local shop" touch my interior with a 10 foot pole personally but I am very particular and worry they'd carelessly break clips behind panels or sratch & scuff stuff, etc. that I wouldn't see or notice everything right away. I think almost anyone can do this install with a few rudimentary tools and time and care especially with the excellent YouTube step by step and available phone/email support. I think you get way more for your money with this setup and the satisfaction knowing you did it!

2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Green Review

Toyota gave its mid-size pickup Tacoma a mild facelift for the 2020 model year, and we only mean sweet. A new grille is the node of the outdoor update, with fresh wheels and modified trim. The TRD Pro model also gained sequential LED headlights and special wheels, while the interior of the truck gained some items as well. It comes at a cost, however – specifically $ 45,080 after a destination charge of $ 1,120 according to Cars Direct. The report quotes Toyota’s updated order guides as a source for pricing information, which can be seen on the press release button following this article.

For the record, it is enrolled in a $ 1,000 increase over the 2019 model. Such increases are not uncommon between model years, especially when updates are involved. This one is intriguing though, as the report says that most 2020 Tacos will only see a price increase of around $ 200. What makes the TRD Pro special enough to justify the extra bump?

Started the install yesterday and it appears something changed since OEM Audio + tested the 2020 install. The wiring harness plugs don't match the head unit. Daniel was very responsive and called me to discuss, their team is going to look at it next week. Guess I'm the first to do this on a production 2020 :shrug: Bummer to wait while they figure it out, hopefully it wont require a new harness.

Their products appear well thought out but I have not heard any of their systems. Any of you have experience with OEM Audio +’s stuff?

So who’s going to be the first to drop some coin and try this?!

I got this kit and I love it.

The stock stereo was just muddy, and after installing the OEM kit (single sub) I have all the volume, clarity, and quality in my audio that I was looking for. Everything sounds better, even all my MP3s of varying quality. I'm very happy with the results. I may add a second sub later, we'll see.

I had considered doing an ad hoc audio upgrade with a powered sub and tweeter addition, and although I didn't go that route and can't compare the results with the OEM solution, I'm glad I went with OEM. I can't say enough about how significantly improved the audio is in the truck now. I listen to alot of progressive metal while my wife listens to alot of hip hop and reggae, and we're both incredibly happy with the depth and quality of the audio now, compared to how disappointingly muddy it was before the upgrade.

I'm glad, but bummed, to hear this as I have been considering the system. Sorry that you have to be the guinea pig on this...but I'm sure they will make it right for you and everyone else!

Finally got my system fully up and running. First issue is the 2020 head unit needed a new adapter for the harness, they resolved that and sent me the adapter, but I didn't have any sound once connected, they then sent a new amp which resolved the issue.

I've heard the system in two configurations, speaker only upgrade and Reference 500.

Speaker only improved the bass and terrible over the base TRD ORP speakers, it was a noticeable improvement, maybe 25% better, hard to say exactly, but it was noticeable, however not too significant as the head unit doesn't have the power needed.

Going to the Reference 500 system was a huge difference over the base and speaker only systems, very clear and smooth, nice bass, I think it sounds great. Will need to let it settle in a bit, but very pleased with the performance and glad it's finally all setup and working.

I called OEM+ and requested to buy an adapter for my 2020 at the end of October and still waiting to hear back. Just called them and the tech was hesitant to tell me what was going on. Sooo not like them to do this. Will find out when Daniel is back in the office next week.

would you mind telling me how much you paid for the second sub, and what OEM+ system you have? with or without JBL (which comes with one OEM+ sub). Do you have a limited / Pro with JBL, or a trim with non-JBL.

I have been using 500Q reference system with all speakers and sub by OEM+ in my 2019. Now waiting for an adapter so i can install it in my 2020.

I also asked them to sell me second sub but i was told that they only sell it with a full purchase of a complete system about a month ago. Were you able to buy one on its own?

Daniel told me there would be a 2nd sub upgrade path for current owners. That's one of the reasons I purchased their kit in the first place. This was at Toyotafest in Long Beach. They also said it again on social media. I hope they weren't lying.

I ordered through the link on their website. I did the ref 500 system and added the speakers and 2nd sub amp but only one sub. It was $150 less than buying through the complete system link. I emailed with Daniel a couple of times today and he answered within an hour or so each time. He said if wanted I could purchase 2nd sub later. The 2nd subs are on backorder and not offered until they are back in stock.
