F*cking Toyota. Not that I've got a hard-on for an FJ or anything, but I'm sure it would have sold better here in the States if they'd bothered to offer that as a factory option.

Don’t think it would have moved the needle for US FJ sales but it could be interesting to some here if it also fits the 5th Gens.

I don't think they could have offered it as a factory option unless there was also a factory option to relocate the spare somewhere else. I bet it fits in the spare location. Wasn't someone building an extended fuel tank for that location for the 5th gen anyway as I remember?

CBI built one for [MENTION=77684]WarnerD9[/MENTION]. IIRC, they will build more, but only if they are doing the installation, not up for general sale.
 
it's also listed as a $47,990 AUD vehicle which makes it $45,004.30 US Dollar. I;m sure that does not include the optional extended tank, so that makes it more expensive than our 4Runner.

But I will admit, that if I could spend <$3K for twice the range, I would be tempted to add it to the bottom of my mod list.

Vehicle prices in Australia are retarded; can't do a direct comparison on pricing by just currency conversion.

Actually I can... question is the one of purchasing power of the AUD vs USD. Possibly adjusted for standard of living, but either way I'm pretty sure I will end up in the ball park. Import costs (because it has to be shipped to an island) are likely the main driver of the cost difference. So when you compare other makes/models, you will likely find a similar percentage markup.

Additionally, you will also want to consider the cost of manufacturing in the country of manufacturing. if the country of sale is not the same country of assembly and source of parts, you will want to factor the exchange cost into that part of the equation as well.

But to make your argument a "fair comparison", would you buy a new GX470 over a new 4Runner simply to have access to an accessory that is only offered on the GX? because regardless of the financial reason, the cost is what the cost is. :shrug: :lmao:

Not so sure. I remember somebody telling me that they had to pay over $125k for a truck we could buy for about $40k here. Don't quote me on the exact numbers but it was something like that. Don't remember the truck either but seem to remember some standard GM version.

All FJs are manufactured in Japan - import to the US should be longer/most costly than to AU if you are shipping at quantity, which you would be regardless.

I think that the reason pricing is so screwed, is that the supply is less than the US market, there is likely some sort of AU taxation, either on the sale, import, or use of the vehicle, and the fact that not only is GDP per Capita higher in AU than US, but per capita incomes for jobs in AU tend to be higher than the exact same job in the US.

67.5k USD (AU) vs. 53k USD (USA) = 27.5% Higher

All other things aside, you could easily tack on another 10k to an FJ price on cost of living alone. Add in less supply, taxation, etc. you could get to 47k pretty easy I would imagine. Similar factors all play into why vehicle costs are so high in the UK, Scandinavia, etc. I came from a Subaru WRX, and a car that cost ~30-35k in the US, was about 80k in Norway. Eeeshhh
