OEM RAV4 Blind Spot Mirror Retrofit

This was buried in my build thread but since I got a few PMs about it after a few members did the same mod I decided to make it a separate thread.

For those of you wanting a better looking option than the stick-on convex mirrors, the RAV4 shares the same side mirrors as the 2014+ 4Runner.

Literally all you need is the actual mirror element from the RAV4. You will retain the factory heating, etc. and it all bolts up.

Here's the part numbers:

Gently pry off the original mirror, remove the OEM heater connector and you'll end up with this

Put the new mirror in

For other enterprising folks, since certain 2016+ RAV4 models have a blind spot monitoring system and utilize the same mirror, you could possibly retrofit them with some additional work. I've also noticed the Highlander mirrors are the same, but for this purpose the model numbers above are verified to work with our application.

Those of you with early 5th gens (2010-2013), you might be able to get the fully convex Highlander mirrors to work from the pre-2014 model years.

What holds the mirror in? Does it have some sort of clips on the back.

There are clips in the back. Please note that the part number I mentioned will only work with the 2014+ 4Runner as the early 5th gens had a different mirror. For those ones the aftermarket convex Highlander mirrors appear to be similar but I don't think it will retain the heater element.

THIS^^ I've been looking for something like this instead of the stick on. My past 3 vehicles had them so I am quite used to using them. Not sure why Toyota would not do this from the get go.

To be totally honest, I think this mod looks better, but I think the stick on mirrors actually WORK better.

I've been running this mod for the past 2 months. I love how it looks OEM, because it is. But the convex mirrors you get at autozone actually work a bit better.

Good write up, [MENTION=127657]codyHTX[/MENTION] got me the part numbers and having the mirrors on for a couple weeks has been great, wife even commented so that's a win win!

Next thing, power fold conversion, I briefly looked at it and the housing seems a bit different shape where it bolts to the body but I bet the "guts" could be swapped over. Did this on my Wife's car and love it

I agree. My stick on ones actually worked better as they were more convex and had additional adjustability but I was tired of them moving all the time when I cleaned the mirror.

I just adjust my mirrors correctly, and I don't have a blind spot. The rear view mirror look backwards, and the side mirrors angle off to each side. They pick up where the rear view leaves off. Simple. And free.

Some of us drive differently and prefer different mirror setups. To say your method is most correct is subjective. Different strokes for different folks.

These mirrors are adjustable?? :spy: Does anybody else know about this?

Ok, just kidding...my reason for this mod is not for pure functionality because as has been pointed out, the 2 dollar stick on version is more functional. I merely want to do things to make my rig a touch different. This seemed easy enough and when the wife drives she shouldn't have to make any changes to my mirrors!

Some of us have no visibility out the back with our tire carrier bumpers.

My Touareg had the split glass which was flush but the entire outer side was the blind spot area. My Ford has the blind spot mirror mounted to the glass similar to the Rav4 one except it's on the outer bottom and not the top. I've never used the stick on ones but I suspect they are functional just not my cup of tea. I like modifications that look OEM as weird as that sounds.

It's tough, I think this mod looks great, but those 3 dollar stick on mirrors were more convex as you said, and dollar to benefit wise were just better.

So yeah this mod is fine if you have money to burn, but the pay off is sorta...I guess...okay? yeah okay is the right word.
