OEM Running Boards fit proplem on 2002! ???

I bought a pair of 3rd gen running boards for my 2002 and the mounting brackets do not line up. ???

Are 2002's different than earlier 3rd gen?

My '02 has NO wheel-well trim. Not fat LTD, not standard or even a tiny chrome trim... no trim at all. Yes I need to solve the end cap issues but shouldn't boards and brackets themselves on all 3rd gen?

Any one have a pair for sale?
