Defending toyota: i play a game with myself while driving, its "would you rather have that car than this 4runner?" since my 4runner being basically stock, i've never looked a stock jeep and thought, hmm i'd probably be happier in that.B]

Sorry Ric you are correct. I misinterpreted your post. I knew you had said they were not in the same class. Reading that I assumed you were saying that the Rubi would be more capable offroad, but that wasn't really comparing apples to apples anyways. My bad.

next time your driving play the game, its really amusing how many cars (realisticly) you would not rather have over a 4runner. i mean obviously you'd rather have some cars over your 4runer, but still, they are they best cars made in my opinion. just dont get too carried away with the game cause if you wreck the runner you might have to settle for buying a jeep with the spare change you have collected by not spending money to fix your 4runner.

I cant really think of anything i would rather have than my 4runner. I can think of other cars I would like to ALSO have. Like a 98 Toyota Camry (have one) and a 2000 Tacoma (had one, want another) hmmm and mabye the new nissan GTR (gonna get one)

I have to say that living in the land of Jeeps and driving a 4Runner for quite a long time I would take a 4Runner over any Jeep. The overall quality and reliability are second to none. Now that is for my everyday street driveable rig.

Now I will state what I think the Jeeps do have an advantage in. You can easily find parts to do any off road mod you can think of. You can lift it 20 inches and put 45 inch tires on it. Put multiple transfer cases and lockers. Every part of the wrangler and cherokee models is available from multiple off road companies that make upgraded parts. Bumpers are cheap and available as well as new body and roll cage kits.

I love my 4Runner, but I have always wanted to build up a Jeep because of the wide range of parts available and the potential to have a really nice rig.

Well I have the best of both words. I have had many Jeeps from cj-5s to 7s a scrambler. I now have a lifted, locked 95 yj wrangler. I also have a 2000 4runner locked front and factory locked rear. There is no comparison in off-road capability between a wrangler and a 4runner. My Jeep could easily park on top of my 4runner and leak all it's fluids on it. Saying that, my 4runner is very capable with just the lockers and tires. I can go places that others can not. I do not have to work on it as often as the Jeep. But with the Jeep, it will go places that I am uncomfortable as a driver going. A Wrangler is undoubtedly the most capable off road vehicle you can buy. That being said, I sure as hell wouldn't drive my wrangler as a DD. Anything over 100 miles and I'm hurting. One could probably build a 4runner to come close, but then it wouldn't be a DD either. My Jeep's wheelbase is 93.5 inches. It's like a big 4wheeler. That's the difference.
