*OFFICIAL* 2012/13 Hockey Thread

Ever since college, I've been following rugby (since I played), and am very frustrated with the lack of coverage that we have. Because of that, I am looking to follow hockey on a more regular basis, as it's the only major sport broadcast in the US that doesn't make me fall asleep, or want to bludgeon my eye out with a hammer. I've even been to a few Av's games, and had a blast,would love to make it to more too.

I'm not going to claim I know anything about lockout's/strike's, but I do know it forced me to continue not watching at the start of this year. I'm sure they had their reason, but I never see the positive side to things like that.
 
I played rugby in college until I tore my acl and just about everything else in my knee. Cool sport and extremely rough - just not my kind of game as I'm not the biggest, fastest kid. Too small the be in the scrum, not fast enough to be a wing/back. Hockey is and has always been my #1, more of finess athlete I guess.

I agree the Avs will be a fun team to watch, I like that Sakic is back in the fold and looks to be going after Roy for the coach. It is mentalities like that which bring winning ways back to organizations, see Cam Neely with the Bruins in 2011.

I want the Bruins because they are my hometown team and for obvious reasons, if they are in it I want them to win it.
I hope the Pens win because eliminating Crosby in the ECF would be sweet justice for the bullshit Iginla pulled at the deadline and because Crosby is a girl
I want LA because I hate Joe Thornton
I want Detriot because they are talented, respectable team and have been for as long as I've been a hockey fan

That being said, I want the Bruins, and I think my bias shows :eyebrows:
 
Good game from the Pens yesterday. I was afraid they would have a bit of a hangover from their last game. No sign of one there. Now they just need to close it out. Miss seeing Fleury in the net though...

And for the record, I personally have been a huge Pen's fan since the 80's (70's baby, 80's child) and continued to love them through their crap early 2000 years as well. My good friend (canuck from Calgary) and I would spend hours as kids playing NHLPA on the Super NES. Him as Calgary and I as Pitt. I can't even remember how many times Gary Roberts kicked the sh*t out of one of my players...

That was a crazy game. Just shows you can't get lazy against them or they will make you pay. I want Pit to win the series, but it would be nice if Ott can win one more from them and make it a real series.

When I went away to college, I would play NHL96 on Sega when I came home from partying. I decided to try and win the Cup with every team in the league. I was 55-0 with Washington (I guess this was during the Bondra years) when my douche bag, frat boy room mate erased my season so he could create a team with all his frat brothers. So, I kicked his ass like I was Gary Roberts...
 
The game tonight is pretty good too. I'm not sure about Chicago though; I know this game has hitting, but they seem to be a bunch of dirty d****e bags. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being physical, but I'm just not a huge fan of what I'm seeing from them. So... I guess go Detroit!

Speaking of physicality, LA vs SJ, had plenty of it. LA looked very strong all game.

No...there will be 15 teams that did get a lot closer to winning the cup then the devils....but I get what your saying. :D whatever helps you sleep at night..and not to distract the thread but know how you feel. I'm a cowboys fan..:thumbdown:

I also am a Cowboys fan. But with the Devils I have total confidence in their GM (the best in sports - ANY sport) to pull things together unlike the Cowboys who if they win it would be DESPITE their front office ineptitude.

When they won Super Bowls, they did so because of Jimmy Johnson - plain and simple.

Well, I didn't think it would actually happen, but Sather decided to pull the plug on Torts today. Not sure of all the political reasons behind this decision, but going from a Jack Adams nominee and the conf finals last year to a 2nd round exit this year isn't exactly grounds for dismissal in my opinion, but I guess that's why I'm a fan and not a GM?

No surprise. He says some pretty stupid and arrogant things and he lost the support of Lundquist who they MUST sign.

They also have had a ton of young talent that he hasn't been able to make work. Hockey is a sport built on a true team concept where character, confidence, and leadership in the locker room is crucial. He didn't blend the right players who accept and excel in a role to succeed or push the right buttons. Sather should get tons of blame as well.

It's a tough sport to coach with high NY expectations on top of that.
 
That King-Hawks series is going to be a good one. Real good.

Kings in 6 (pulling for the NY kid Brown, better goalie)
Bruins in 7 (pummel Capt Cry Baby)
