Official 3rd gen 4Runners on 35's Pic Thread

Is there anyone running a Goodyear 35/12.5/17.......new tires will be coming in the next few months and I'm playing with the idea of a 35 or 315.

The 35's are just a touch taller. I went with the for just that reason. Though in all practical ways you won't be able to tell the difference. But you will still know You are running a bigger tire. Lol

I keep going back and forth. A 285/75/17 will get me 34.1x11.6 and a 315/70/17 or 35/12.5/17 will get 34.8x12.6. I don't care for the width but I like the added inch over my current tires. The dilemma comes in at the price. A set of Goodyear Fierce attitudes in 315/70/17 are $1100 +\- on eBay, where as the 285/75/17 in Toyo MT or Nitto Trail Grappler are $1300-$1600. If there is a mpg difference I'll see the difference and price is negligible.

Would regularly browse this thread ever since Bandit Runner started it. I installed my BFG KO 315/75/16 about a year ago. Went from Goodyear 265/70/16 to BFG KO 285/75/16 & now the 315s.

SPC UCA allowed me to fit the 315s without any modifications to the wheel well but I did rotate the fender flare on the front bumper slightly forward for another .5" clearance. I wasn't rubbing the flare but a friend suggested it & offered to do it for me. However, I was occasionally rubbing on the front end caps on the stock running boards at full lock but after trimming the end caps I no longer rub. I realize I am one of the few that like the stock running boards.

4runner 315 pic.jpg

- What wheels are you running? stock 5 stars

- Do you rub the frame at full lock? Yes

- Do you rub the wheel well? No, with daily driving & fire roads

- What specific tire size and brand are you running? 315/75/16 BFG KO

- Do you rub the UCA at full drop? No, SPC UCA on G setting

- What's my Caster on the G setting? 1.5 driver side, 1.7 passenger side

- How's it drive with 1.5 & 1.7 Caster? Very similar to when I was on the D setting with the caster within spec DS 2.5 & PS 2.7 & my steering wheel still self centers on turns.

- Why did I choose the G (lowest caster setting)? I would get occasional rubbing on the pinch weld on the SPC recommended D setting with caster in spec. After a lot of experimenting, the G setting eliminated the occasional pinch weld rub and didn't compromise handling.

- Are you running wheel spacers, if so how big are they? Yes, .75 front only

- Are you running a body lift, if so how much? Yes, 4crawler 2"

- Why did I choose a body lift instead of modifying the wheel well? Want to avoid irreversible mods

- What are my center hub to fender measurements without the 2" body lift? Front 22.25" & Rear 23.25"

- Auto or manual, and what gears are you running? auto, 4.1 I think.

Had to move the washer fluid reservoir and I hit a lot of other things with a hammer. Cut about 2 inches off my fenders. A lot of stuff

Connor, you mind posting a picture of the fender after being trimmed? I know you don't have rust problems in CA or AZ like I do in UT, but did you do anything to protect the paint? My last runner had flares, so I didn't worry about how it looked, but I won't be running fenders on this next one. Feel free to message me on IG if that's easier too.

So I cut upwards and then folded the tabs over. Then I sanded the edge and sprayed it with bedliner. Make sure you cut a lot near the firewall area. There are 2 bolts holding the fender on right there, I cut in between the 2 bolts and now only have one. #clearanceislife

35's

I didn't want to start another 4.88 vs. 5.29 re-gear thread. I figured everyone in here who has 35's have re-geared or thinking about re-gearing. I recently upgraded to 35's and I wanted to ask your guy's opinions on which gear ratio would be best for me.

I have an '01, AUTO, addicted offroad front plate bumper, sliders, savage offroad rear tube bumper, skid plates front to back, drabbits full length roof rack, custom built drawers, 315/75/16 hankook dynapro MTR's. Currently, no winch but eventually will add one along with a rear tire carrier with matching tire/rim. This is a lot weight so I was thinking 5.29's to get some power back but I worry the RPM's will be too high because I plan on doing a lot of road traveling with this truck which makes me want 4.88's for highway comfort.

Which would you choose, 4.88 or 5.29 if you had my set up. Thank you all for your advice.

4.88s. I think 4.56s are perfect for 35's and a manual. I would choose 4.88s for an Auto.

Research. There are threads for this. Be ready for some work. IMO for 35s you need 3"+ suspension lift, 1.5" body lift, SPC UCA's in the G position, 3.5" BS wheels. This will get you riding pretty nice. But you will rub off-road. Next step would be cutting, welding and hammering the firewall to clear the tires.

 or start with the hammer and you can get 35's on with out rubbing and no lift at all. Hehe. Just saying:rockon:

Really? Just read through this thread. Everyone has posted what their mods are in order to run the 35's.

Why read and learn the 10 possible ways in here when someone can spoon feed it to you? It's more fun when you're told
