Official Bay Area MOD/MEET/GREET Thread

Yea i watched the video you made on this. I was thinking if theres another way to route the hose without taking that upper plastic piece off but ill order those plastic grommets just in case.

You could still route the hose along the fill tube without taking those upper grommets off but you'd then be limited on how well you could secure the breather hose behind the cover. I tried to remove the grommets without breaking them but quickly realized saving those clips wasn't going to be worth the aggravation and cursing involved to get those suckers off. Breaking them was definitely the way to go.

Dec 4th Meetup @ Timmy's Place

Hey Dudes,

For those that are planning on coming, I think it would be best if we try to concentrate on a few rigs, but maybe as much as 4. It may be a little tight, but we could fit 3 vehicles in the driveway and 1 in the garage. Ideally, 1 in the garage and 2 in the driveway. This way we can all be in close proximity to each other so we can help each other out if we hit a snag and all the tools will be close by as well.

So far, these are the mods on the docket:

1) Sean and I planned on helping Jayjayb96 with his TBU and maybe an extended breather mod. We'll be making a video of the TBU.

2) I know MarkamisPrime and Patriot12 want to do some UCAs and new front springs.

3) phokingchink has a bunch of stuff he wants to do but I think we'll have to see who shows up and see what's feasible to do with the time we have.

What do you guys think? Should we concentrate on these 3 rigs?

Timmy's Dec 4 mods schedule

Admittedly I am not the fastest worker at this stuff but when I did my BL that alone took me 5 hours. For a rig to also undergo a suspension lift and a TBU that's pretty aggressive to get done in a day IMHO.

I might be impartial but im cool with the work schedule haha. if im not needed during the TBU for my rig but i figure i can do the extended diff mod and rear brake line myself. Aside from that ill be available to help anyone for their mods. I agree with mtbtim and Snowden about seeing whats feasible as far as working on phokingchink 's rig. Definitely alot of mods to do in one day; I would concentrate on his lift as the 1st priority and go from there. Another buddy that has a 3rd gen might stop by as well; not 100% confirmed but told him to bring food haha. He wanted to do disable his drl and do the andy mod which both are fairly easy.

Just heard from Sean and he has Dec 4th off. So, let's do it Sunday, Dec 4th.

What are the Mods/Repairs you dudes want to do? There's only so much room. One rig in the garage, a couple in the driveway and maybe use the court for a couple more.

For food, we could do a potluck of sorts. Smoking usually takes a while so maybe I can make up some burgers and marinate up some chicken and tri-tip. You guys could bring some side dishes and dessert. Everyone can bring their favorite beverage and maybe some to share as well.

How's this sound?

I'm a little late to the party, but could I join in on this too?? I have no work needed to be done on mine, just want to hang out! Let me know!

Yeah, maybe we can get phokingchink suspension lift installed. It's going to depend on the knowledge of those attending to help get it going while I'm helping Jay with his TBU. If others can get going on his lift while Sean and I are working on Jay's truck, we should be able to knock out his lift.

Sean and I haven't done a Upper Control Arm Replacement and it would be great if we could video that as well. I was thinking if we can knock out Jay's truck pretty quick, which I think we can, we could could then get MarkamisPrime truck into the garage and do his upper control arm and spring replacement.

Not to be an ass or anything but phokingchink needs to bring his knee pads. That's a lot of work to be done for free. [emoji23]
My UCAs took me by myself 1 hour and I was taking my sweet time.
Took me 5 hours with a trip to local big o to use there wall mount spring compressor and a lunch break to do Patriot12 lift. Body lifts are a pain but I have done quite a few. They take just as long as a suspension lift if not a bit longer.
Paul aka patriot12 should be there but my son will be a week old on that day so idk how the wife would feel about me being gone all day but if I do show up it will be a surprise.

Yeah, there's no way we're going to get all that work done for phokingchink but I was thinking maybe we could help him with his suspension lift. I've done work for free for total strangers and I don't mind as long as they are cool people to hang out with. Hell, that's how infamousRNR (aka Sean) and I became friends when I helped him with his valve cover gaskets and we started our YouTube channel as a result.

Sounds like MarkamisPrime already did his UCA's. Darn and that was one I wanted to learn... :(. As far as the suspension lift I won't be first hand knowledgeable since I had mine done at the shop. Being a newbie I felt 4 hours of professional labor with installation warranty including a 500 mile check and snug was worth it. That's 4 hours done at a shop by the pro's with hydronic lift and all the tools.

Yeah Paul. Patriot12 is the one who needs the ucas installed still.
I used to work at the local shop here in my area that installed lift kits and lowering kits. Any and all suspension work and custom work.
And yeah I hear you on the install warranty if your not really sure what your doing.
But if you torque what needs to be torqued and use lock tite your good for miles of worry free driving.
Although it is always just a good practice to check things every 6months or so. Just for peace of mind. That's what I do anyway.

With the UCA replacement, do you reuse the OEM upper balljoint or did Patriot12 buy one of those uniball jobbers?

Aftermarket light racing upper control arms or any of the popular UCA's have their own "ball joint"... although not always a joint like
The OEM, it's usually a uniball

Cool. Maybe I'll get to use my balljoint press and special adapters to remove the OEM balljoint.

To bad you guys live so far away. I'm sure I'd have a blast meeting you all and helping on a few projects. Bishop is a great town but it's a no mans land. Even AAA couldn't decide if the wife and I where in Norcal or Socal. lol

When you go to press the UBJ out of the spindle first cut it so there's less length to deal with. I cut it right where the ball meets the shaft with a grinder. Also since you have that rad new tool set I'm sure you'll have the correct size adapter to press it out. If you don't for some reason a piece of 1 1/4" black iron pipe is the perfect size. I had to make one since the kit I borrowed didn't have the correct size. Some liquid wrench and a little bit of heat and it was a pretty simple removal.

I used my balljoint tool to press the new adapter in. But used my air hammer to get the old one out.
Did in literally 5sec. Haha. Just remember there is a c-clip to remove before you start to try and press the old one out. It's covered by the balljoint boot.

Yessir that is me who has the UCAs. It's a regular Total Chaos uniball UCA.

Hey Bro,

If you're game, I'd love to video the replacement of your UCA. But, this would mean I'd first help Jay with his TBU and then we'd get to yours. What do you think?

Thanks for the tips. I don't have one of those grinders yet but I'll probably buy one at some point. What I do have is all the necessary adapters and balljoint press from OTC. Since I spent the money on them, I may as well put them to some good use.

It is cool to see all the different ways to do the same job though. Some people are very ingenious what they come up with.
