A machine broke at their suppliers shop.. they went ahead and gave me a free $100 off and have been updating me the whole way. Would definitely do business again with them. They were good about responding to my questions the whole way

Hey fellow bay area folks,
Do any of you have any strong recommendations for alignment for our 4runners?
I have a 2001 4WD with a 2" lift. The components are Toytec coils up front and a basic billy 5100 + OME 906 in the rear.
I have taken my truck to Wheel Works 3 times and 2 locations and still can't get the steering wheel alignment right. The first visit was the one in Santa Clara. The truck was riding straight for the most part but my steering wheel was way off to the left. I took it around area for 10 minutes, came back, they quickly closed shop. I took it to the Belmont location twice. The first time there, the wheel was slightly cocked right and truck drove straight. I took it there today to get the steering wheel straightened out only to pick it back up at the end of the day with the steering wheel cocked way left and truck pulling right. I've given up on these guys. I would appreciate any recommendations that you have personally gotten an alignment.
I just want my truck to have its steering wheel straight again.

You could try 4wheel parts in San Jose. They're used to working on lifted trucks, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a try.
You could also pull the steering shaft from the steering rack, turn the wheel to where you like, and reinstall it.

NEVER EVER DO THIS.
An alignment is not rocket science unfortunately not everyone can preform a proper alignment and tell you what the numbers mean.
Your steering wheel is straightened by properly setting front toe. If you spin the shaft on the splines then your going to max out one tie rod and not the other and then you will never be able to get a proper alignment.
Just because the truck drives straight doesn't mean your alignment is ok. Especially if your steering wheel is crooked.
Yes try 4wheel parts
If that doesn't work
Or your just done trying places out and wasting money.

I have a place that has an awesome alignment guy. Big O is the place and they are open till 7pm Monday-Saturday. They offer alignment plans so you can get your truck re aligned as many times as you want in the allotted time frame you paid for.
I used to work there so I know first hand he is the man. I know the manager and the owner so I can also get you a good price on the alignment.
Also how are your rack bushing and inner and outer tie rods because that can definitely make or break being able to get your steering wheel perfect. Not saying it can't be done cause it can and I have done it but I wouldn't want you to drive all the way over here just to find out your front end has play.

[MENTION=144752]MarkamisPrime[/MENTION], Sean and I used this method but it was part of replacing a steering rack for another member (Dave). When we got the new rack in and with equal threads showing on the outer tie rods, the steering wheel was not straight. Now, we could have sent this to the alignment shop and had them do all the adjustment of the steering wheel at the tie rods but that most likely would have resulted where we found Dave's rig before swapping the rack with one outer tie rod with tons of threads showing and the other side with no threads showing and the lock nut basically bottomed out.
So, with wheels pointing straight ahead, I disconnected the rag joint, had Dave turn this steering wheel straight and hold it there while I picked up the lower half of the joint off the splines on the rack and repositioned it until it matched up with the upper half of the joint again. Bolted the rag joint back together and the steering wheel was much straighter now but not perfect. He got an alignment afterward and they were able to perfectly center the steering wheel. And, there was still plenty of adjustment left on both outer tie rods which was what I was hoping for.

You guys fixed what someone messed up by deciding to straighten there steering wheel via the spline method.

Plenty of people do their own alignments correctly at home, and once toe is set correctly they rotate the steering wheel. Saying to never do this doesn't seem right since plenty of people do it correctly. If you set toe correctly (or get in the ballpark) like [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] did, but that didn't get the steering wheel straight, then disconnecting it from the rack to realign it is not a big deal.

I'm currently in no position to do what [MENTION=113939]JerkyDrewster[/MENTION] recommends with the steering shaft but I may visit 4 wheel parts for an alignment. [MENTION=144752]MarkamisPrime[/MENTION] is about 2+ hours away from me but if my one last try here fails I might take you up on your offer. I'm going to try the Wheel Works in San Mateo to see if they can get this corrected as I live in Foster City.

I also completely forgot I have a cousin that works at a euro shop in Santa Cruz and he does more mechanical work than alignments but I showed him how to do alignments so I know he can do the job correctly. The name of the shop escapes me right now but if your interested I'll ask him and edit this later.

Btw thanks for everyones input on my Weird idling issues. Found out it wasnt actually my IAC valve; it was a combination of things, dirty air filter and a vacuum leak on my supercharger.

Hi All, I recently traded cars with my dad and got his 2002 Toyota 4Runner with 201k miles. I have a few items I wanted to replace such as:
1. front rotors and pads due to pulsation (warped rotors)
2. fuel filter
3. replace lower ball joint
4. disable DRL
5. deckmod and ISR
I've watched Timmy the Toolman's youtube channel and has been a wealth of resource. The only problem is: I live in a studio apartment with no garage or space to work on the runner. I work in IT consulting for several bay area companies so I'm willing trade services in return for someone teaching me how to replace parts on the runner.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to attending future car meets, if any. Thanks for reading!

Sick Mods and BBQ at Timmy the Toolman's Garage
Hey Bay Area 3rd Gen Brothers, the stormy California weather seems to be mostly past us now so [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] (Sean) and I figured it was time for a another meet-up to wrench, shoot the shit, eat BBQ and drink beer, not necessarily in that order.
Our idea is we could decide on 3 people's rigs to work on, 1 in the garage and 2 in the driveway. If your rig isn't one of the ones we're working on, you can lend a hand with whichever sick mod or repair you have knowledge about or are interested in.
This will be a Pot Luck / BYOB. I will take care of providing the meat for smoking and grilling, just bring a side dish or dessert and your favorite beverage to share with the rest of your brothers or sisters in case there's a local gal who'd like to join the party.
Date: Saturday, May 13th
Time: 9am until whenever
The More the Merrier. If you're a local 3rd Gen 4runner Owner or Other Gen 4runner Owner, or if you just like Toyotas, or whatever, You're Welcome.
