OH F- Radiator Problem.

So last summer i broke off my nipple that goes from my rad cap to my overflow tank. the only real way to fix this it to buy a new rad. well thats out of the question at the moment.

last time i fixed it i used jb weld and that worked for 5K miles, now it broke loose again because i bumped it.

this time im thinking about jb welding it again and scuffing up the surface a bit more so it has a better bite on the radiator. but b4 i do, what do you guys think would go about repairing this? besides a new rad.

i need it to last me minimal; 2 more months and about 2k miles.

if you have a friend with a tig box, you could maybe do that to re-attach it?

You may want to try JB Weld's water putty for a quick fix. But nothing will last for the long term, especially in summer.

Can't you just park the 96 until you can drop the $$$ for a Koyo, TYC, etc.?

Can't you take that plastic part off and get a new rubber hose that matches the inner diameter of the hole, and insert the hose with super glue. Once fully cured, cut the extra tube coming into the radiator cap. Remember, before adding any glue, make sure to clean the surface with soapy water to remove oil like coolant.

Did that switch knob worked for you?

jb weld should hold that just fine as long as you don't hit it again. If the hole is clean enough you could tap it out and put a brass fitting in there with jb weld all over it. Or you could get adventurous with a soldering iron and melt/weld the plastic back together. Just don't breath the smoke...

the water one didnt have a temp rating, the quick set was only to 230 (close to radiator temps) and the original was set for 500 deg.

i did think of that but i dont have a tap, and down time can only be minimal, if i break something else im screwed and have to park it until i can get a radiator in.


So i ended up sanding the nipple and the radiator then applying a large glob of JB original weld to is, it covered about 3X more than last job i did, we will see how long this one lasts. hopefully long enough!

I think it is 300F on the Water Putty. Good job on your fix, temp that is.

so i ended up sanding the radiator and nipple. then added a bunch of jb weld. its turned out pretty good a a heck of a lot more solid then the last one.
