My beloved '96 and I got into an accident last Friday. No one was injured. Truck is roached. My insurance gave me good valuation either way so I decided to keep it. Can't justify throwing away all the gear I installed over the past 9 months. I've made arrangements with some of my friends to deal with the moving and stripping of the truck. Still so sad to see it go this way. I bought that thing only 2 years ago for 6K with 112K on it. I need a replacement Runner ASAP and it's going to be a waiting game. I talked to a fella in Aurora (CO), asking 9K for a '99 Limited with 113K. CO folks, is that seriously what people pay for Toyotas up there? There's way more Toyotas there than there are here. Anyway, if anyone wants anything off my '96 and is within driving distance, you're welcome to whatever isn't spoken for. For now, I'm driving the wife's Runner and she still has her Acura. At least it's giving me some time with the '01 rebuild. I'll tell ya one thing, the DRL's are going bye-bye as soon as it's not -50 outside.

Man that's a bummer, I'm glad no one was injured though. What happened? Looks like the other person didn't stop at a red light and took out your rear.

I know a guy here in Nashville looking to put his 2001 SR5 Sport up for adoption. Mileage is a bit high-ish (225k), but no rust that I can remember, and the interior is in very good condition. It pretty much looks exactly like mine. PM me if you're interested and I can put you in touch.

I'm sorry about your accident and glad you're okay... PM sent because I could use a few small parts for my own '96...

I got my 99 SR5 with 240k for ~$3 in November a couple miles from Aurora. So no, but I'd never pay that much for a 3rd gen. Might be low miles but that's still a 15 year old vehicle :moping: Keep looking if you're trying to find one here, though the price seems to go way up when it's been snowing (which it has been). In November there were tons with <200k for <$6k

Price seems high to me, but I'm not surprised to see it listed for 9k in Denver. Doesn't mean he'll get 9k. I would shoot for something with more miles but good maintenance history... you'll get a lot more for your money. FWIW my '99 was $4500 with 168k

Thanks for the tips. A lot of decent mileage Runners around the Denver area were asking WAY over NADA high value. I'm not paying that either. I've been scouring Denver, OKC and Texas. I think I'll just have to wait until a gem pops up around here. It took me a bit to find my '96 but when I did it had 112K, clean Carfax and all service records since purchase. That's a tough find, but old folks have vehicles well taken care of just sitting in garages until they get around to selling them. $4500 for a '99 is pretty sweet. I do know it's the worst time of year to be looking for a 4WD but such is life. I'm gonna be picky. Preferably I'd like a '99 (center console, diff lock and tranny temp sensor) with under 140K, bone stock. I'd pay 7K or so for that with a clean history and records. Either way, I'll do an immediate swap of all my goodies and finally get my Savage sliders welded up and the rest of the stuff still sitting in my garage that never made it onto my '96.

I'm sorry to hear about this. It's good to hear no one was hurt. Poor 4runner!

On another note, I am just a stone's throw away from you in Lincoln/Columbus. I would be interested in the cargo cover if you have it and possibly the stock roof rack rails. That is if you're willing to get rid of them.

No sweat. I'll keep this thread updated as to when I'll be stripping the truck. It will most likely be when it's not -25 outside. Cargo cover? Are you talking about that thing that sits in the slots with slide out tarp for the cargo area? I do not have that. You're more than welcome to the roof rack if you wanna drive up here.

Replacement Runner. Just bought it a few days back. '98 Limited, locker, 145K. TB and WP done at 91K. Good records. Everything runs good thus far. Paid $5200. It's a Canadian import so I've ran across a few strange things. I've started swapping stuff from my '96 to the new one. I'll keep ya'll updated on pieces and parts once we actually move it.

How's the new one coming along? Any updates?

Hey, Terri. The new one's coming along. Now that the weather looks like it might stay somewhat nice, I can really get to work. So far I've only been able to do little things. Got my tires and wheels on (and spare) stereo, LED's, etc. installed. Disabled DRLs, small fixes and what not. Sounds like we're gonna be gutting the '96 the 2nd weekend of April. Soon after that this one will get built all at once. Catch up with ya soon.

Whats different about the Maple Leaf edition?

It has DRLs and some emission differences. The muffler is ginormous. It also doesn't have VIN tags on all the pieces and parts and windows. It only has the driver's door jamb sticker. That's all I've found so far.

Should have a Low Washer Fluid warning. Don't ask me why.

It should also have a VIN/barcode on the dash at the bottom driver's side of the windshield.

Don't forget KM/h readings obviously. I surprisingly have the same color scheme year as yours. Originally a Vancouver vehicle that was brought to the states in 2000.

All right 4Runner people. Finally got the truck into my buddy's garage and getting this crap done. Pulling the motor this upcoming weekend and are going to be pretty much done with it by next week. Here's my deal. What ever I can bring home and store in my garage, I'll be more than happy to part with as long as folks want to drive here and get it. I know I've already spoke with some of you folks about stuff and I will post on the classifieds. As of right now I'd like to sell the locker (entire set up, housing, 3rd member, motor, wiring, computer, stock button). Front doors, hood, probably tranny and transfer case. I do not want to ship anything. Let me know if ya'll are in driving distance and want something. The motor, ECU and related components are all going into a swap on my buddy's '88 Runner. Flares and trim are already spoken for. In the meantime, here's some pics -
