Wats up everbody. Bought my first T4R not too long ago and it is time to change the engine oil on the vehicle. I was thinking on buying regular oil from an AutoZone or something but deep down I feel like I need to use something better if it's out there. Dont mind spending the extra money to keep my Runner in tip top shape. Any suggestions on what I should use?

I'm usually very picky about oil, but in all honestly with these trucks, as long as you go with a reputable oil company, synthetic or regular, and change your oil regularly, you're going to be ok with no matter what you pick. And as long as it is within spec (5w30-10w30)

If conventional has been used stick with it. Use Mobil. Best off the shelf oil you can get IMO.
If its been switched to synthetic. Well Amsoil is the best. And use 5w30 in winter and 10w30 in summer. Or 5w30 all year if you don't wanna change.

Or this like I said if synthetic has been used.
Oh and WIX filters are great too. If you don't want to use Toyota ones.

It's not going to hurt to use conventional oil for normal use... like others said use the specified viscosity and change regularly... I'm of the opinion is you're gonna expose it to extreme conditions then go synthetic... and +1 for Amsoil that's all I run in my Caddy 
They have oil and filters rated for 15,000 miles or 1 year... kinda pricey, but convenient and well worth it

Synthetics are a waste of your money if you plan on doing 3-5k mile oil changes. Synthetics have little advantages for short change intervals.
If you do decide on longer oil changes with synthetics, like others have said, go with a high quality oil filter like a Wix or Bosch.

It's meaningless to talk about which oil if you do not specify the change interval. Just about anything of correct grade works at 3k OIC. Over 5k you need synthetic. Over 8k on anything you're crazy, but that's my opinion.
I use Castrol full syn at 6500 OIC and Blackstone UOA says I could go longer. Always Wix filters--I use the oversized Platinum all syn media NAPA 41516. I prefer to put my money in the filter rather than the oil as long as it's full syn.
Truth is, any halfway intelligent regular program is probably fine, if dino and <5k or syn <7.5k.

This. FWIW, back in 1996 they (Toyota) were recommending a 5k OCI. And that was on dino oil.
I personally use Pennzoil Ultra with the OEM D1 filter at a 5k interval. I switched at around 100k and my valve covers don't leak any more than they did with regular Pennzoil. IMO, if it begins to leak when you switch then the engine may have been lacking in maintenance.

Synthetics can expose leaks (they dont cause them), especially in older high mileage vehicles. That can be a disadvantage for obvious reasons, but it can also be a benefit in allowing you to see the condition of the seals in the engine. Change to synthetic + no leaks = good.
Synthetics also clean the engine better, so running a synthetic for a few intervals can be beneficial in that regards.
If you notice that the engine is already leaking oil, then I would not switch to a synthetic and just go with a high mileage oil with seal conditioners.

Any leak you see with a synthetic you will see just as easily with conventional oil. You can switch back and forth as much as you would like, as often as you would like.
