this question just popped on my head

you just realized that you've been using your truck and you check the dipstick and it is way over the full line mark.

is it bad for the engine? have you any experience like this?

if you did it yourself, just drain some, if you had a shop do it, go there, make them drain some of it..

Its not a good thing lol..how much "over" is it...

That all depends on what you mean by "way over the full line"

If it's only a 1/2 inch or so, probably not a big deal. If you get more that 2 inches, then the oil level in the sump could get high enough to hit the level of the crankshaft. If that happens, then the crank turning can whip the oil into a froth which isn't a good thing. If you just recently had it changed, and it's too high, just drain some out. If it's been a while, it probably won't matter, but draining the extra is still probably a good idea. If you are close to your next oil change interval, I'd wait until then, IMHO.

In general, overfilling the oil is a bad thing... Especially with these more modern engines and tighter tolerances, the potential for blowing a valve seal is greater than it was with previous generations of engines (Toyota or otherwise). My advice - drain the oil and refill or at least drain partially and check the level and refill to the correct level.

Like other's have said, we need some clarification to answer correctly.
If you did it yourself. how much did you put in?
How much did the shop put in if they did it (if it was a stealer, then NEVER go back to them for ANYTHING)?
Is it just over the mark?
Or are you just having problems reading the correct level (like what was discussed in another thread not to long ago complaining about getting a good reading on the V6 dipstick?)

it was just a scenario i came up with, so thus, "what if?". a good example would be, say, half inch to 3/4" above the full mark of the dip stick.

My oil (just bought the 4R used from a dealership) is about 2 inches over max. I'll drain some tomorrow.

I change oil at dealler. It is always about 3/8 above max. Never had a problem. I never run on max RPMs too, to generate max oil pressure which potentially can be an issure. IMHO (hope it helps).

I floor mine all the time to red line and have no issues. Hope that helps.
