Oil pressure/coolant temp sender pics

Hey all,

I'm working on an engine swap and am prepping a big document to roll me through everything when I finally can take my '90 4runner apart.

I'm looking for photos of the locations for components that run into the dash, specifically the coolant temp unit, as well as the oil sender that plugs in as well. Just looking for an explanation of where I can look on the 3vze to find them, and any other info that might help as well.

The engine I'm swapping in will not hook up directly to the 4runner tach gauge, but I've heard of some options for doing this. What is the best option for hooking up the stock OM617.952 tachometer wire into the stock 4runner cluster? A dakota digital tach signal interface?

The om617(5 cyl) uses a signal from the crank pulley, whereas the 4runner(v6) uses one from the crankcase, if I'm correct? what would that mean for signal calibration?

I don't think the 3vze gets a tach signal from the crankcase, there's really nothing electronic in there that I know of. It gets its signal from the igniter, and if you go with a Merc Diesel, you'll need to either pull a signal from a crank position sensor or use a mechanical tach.

What does the merc that you're getting the engine from use for a tach? That's where you would need to start for a diesel swap. If it was a gas engine, you can tune the tach to work with other engines sometimes by turning the variable resistor under the face of the tach (sort of to the right side iirc).

Good luck with the swap though. I know this swap has been done in the past, maybe another forum will have more details on wiring it up correctly.
