OK to power 35w light via my rear 12v outlet safely?

Quick question (handy with a wrench, useless with anything electrical!)

I have a 35w tractor spotlight that is able to clamp onto the rear of my roof basket. I want to use it for extra lighting when I'm camping (don't need it for a back-up light) and want to be an easy on/off application.

I'm heading out for the last weekend of camping next weekend and want to use the lamp then, so my question is can I wire a 12v 'cigarette' plug onto the end of the lamp cable and use my rear outlet to power it safely? My 12v outlets are powered full-time as I jump wired the relay, so it would be really handy just to be able to plug and go. Eventually I will wire something up permanently but would be great to get this going.

ive used 100w spot light b4 with out any problems

No problem. 35 watts is only 3 amps and the circuit should probably handle 10 amps easily.

These formulas (Ohms Law ) will help you in the future if you are not certain of these things.
It applies to Direct current Like the battery is in your 4 Runner is 12 volt dc.

watts / voltage = amps

e = volts

r = resistance in ohms

i = amps

e / r = i

e / i = r

i * r = e

You still had better have a way to jump start the truck or re - charge the battery. You may find you drain all your power, especially if your battery is weak.

Maybe not a good idea if you don't have a plan " B ".
