Thanks everyone for the info you have given me to this point regarding the 5th Gen 4RTE. I know you can't make a decision for me but all your input sure helps. So, I'm about ready to buy but I have two more questions to which I would appreciate candid answers:

1. To me, headroom is limited in the 2013 4Runner Trail. Especially with the seat raised up high enough to have a good view over the hood when off road and I'm concerned about limited headroom in rough country what with all the bouncing around. What do you guys think about the head room in the Trail model (has the moon roof)?

2. If you had the opportunity to do it all over again, would you still buy a 5th Gen 4Runner (TE or other models) knowing what you know now? Like I said I don't expect anyone to make a decision for me but honest answers help me to realize long-term issues--like comfort, ride, reliability, little parts falling off, etc. that I may not know about the vehicle.

1. I'm 6'1 and it's more than enough head room, I can look up to the sun roof and there's plenty of space in between.

2. I would have 2 of them of I could afford it :)
 
I'm 6'3'' and my head will bump against the sunroof hump when the chair is all the way up, but I never sit like that.

I was on the fence between an Xterra S, Taco and the TE. I decided to splurge and get the nicer vehicle. I had an FJ Cruiser, too, in the past.

The Xterra, Taco and FJ are brutally cheap, but the TE is not 10-12 grand more truck, either. I'm not disappointed, but I'm not thrilled with the price, either. I think if 4Runners were made in the states Toyota could sell them much cheaper.
 
Like DannyLlama I'd buy a second one to go with my '12 TE. I like it that much, and way more than expected. Not every vehicle will appeal to everyone, obviously, but I certainly have no regrets.

I'm 6 foot 1 inch and have no issues with headroom. You don't really need to sit up high to have a good sense of where the front end is (you don't really need to see over the hood). My TE is one of the easier vehicles I've driven in many years to position. I drive quite a variety of vehicles due to travel and the 4Runner is one of the better ones for visibility, etc.
 
1. I'm 5'10", so headroom has never been an issue. I off road quite a bit and seeing over the hood when cresting a rise can be a challenge. I generally just lean forward to get a better view. If you're belted in, which you should be, bouncing up into the roof isn't an issue.

2. Absolutely love the truck after a year and a half of ownership. There's nothing else on the market I can think of that compares to the T4R TE.
 
I am 6' and have not felt any issues with headroom up front no matter the seat position; in the back seat though the roof line is a bit low for me, but fortunately I never have to ride back there.

Stop over thinking and buy it already :)
 
5'9" so no height issue. When on the trail I lean forward and pray (or rely on a spotter), but I have considered adding a front facing camera like [MENTION=51655]Phill[/MENTION]y2d has on his. Mine is a Limited.

Only complaints:
- No lumbar support on passenger side.

That's about the only thing that doesn't have an easy mod to fix (aside from a pillow on the seat)... and the Mrs has learned to live with it; even on long road trips.

Sure it's not a cheap as a Taco or FJ, but it's more family room inside the vehicle and no obnoxious blind spot.

So... "sign and drive"... or whatever the Toyota slogan is!:target:

I know, Eddie, I think I am overthinking about it. BTW, I'm 5'9.
 
Just buy that sucker :mullet: its a great car. If the power doesn't bother you its the best car you can buy.

No, I like the black trim. Gives it a more rugged look. Besides, painted parts like fender flares and lower bumpers cost more than the black plastic. I think.

Question 1 :

Having come most recently from a solid front axle Grand Cherokee I understand your concern about the off road ride and visibility. I have to admit that I have not yet taken my 4Runner into any extreme off road conditions since it's primary function is a work vehicle as I am a field technician and use it to haul my equipment to work locations.

However I have owned IFS 4x4s in the past and it is my general observation that they do not throw you around quite as violently as a solid axle vehicle.

I did hit my head a time or two in the Jeep, not so much on the roof but the top of the door frame as it rocked side to side. Also anything like loose change or sunglasses laying in the center console or in the arm rests would be propelled into the air and go to the floor or out an open window.

When this occurs, I have found it is best to slow down a little if it is at all possible, (sometimes it is not possible though).

I do not remember having this trouble as much in my IFS Chevy S10, but it has been over 15 years since I had it.

Question 2 :

Yes I would definitely buy it again, no doubt about it! No regrets so far. 14 months and 42,000 miles later.

Is it perfect? No, nothing will be absolutely perfect, but it is pretty damn good for what it is!
 
If you like to sit that high, get you a booster seat, OPEN the sunroof and look out thru it.................yes you are seriously overthinking this purchase if that is a real worry.

27,000 miles in 6 months on a '12 SR5, not 1 problem, nothing has fallen off, 19.6 mpg overall average, very comfortable and holds its resale value better than any other SUV. My 1 nitpicking thing I would change if I could is the orange display on the standard radio, you can't read it in sunlight or with sunglasses on, that's it,

Go buy it and enjoy it !!

Wet Okole has an option to put in an airbag that is shaped as a lumbar support bar that can be inflated to her liking. Moderate price to pay for seat covers/comfort IMO..especially if you guys are taking trips
 
If you're asking these questions, you had best not go pulling any triggers til you've completed your homework.

Have you tried and any other vehicles? If so, what did you like and dislike about them?

Wait for the '14. There will still be plenty of '13's left if you don't like it.
 
I came a little bit late, but anyway,

1. no complains about head room with sunroof (I'm 5'10")
2. yes I would buy another T4R in a heartbeat (maybe would look closely at TE though)
