OME 881/906 Rear Too High!

It's a bit hard to tell from this side of the internet but that sure doesn't look like a 2 inch difference to me. Looks like a pretty good stance actually....

I once put 300 pounds in the rear of mine to see how the 906s handled it. They settled down about 1 inch.

Stock shocks are probably not able to control the 906's in the rear, making them less comfortable than they should be. Even with the right shocks (Bilstien 5100's are designed for them, along with the OME shocks), they will be stiff when unloaded.

Maybe try finding a set of 5th gen 4Runner (stock) rear springs? With a 10mm trim packer on both sides, you will be right at 2" of lift and they should be a bit softer than the 906's.

There's always somebody on here looking for 906's, so they should be easy to sell.

If your ride is harsh and you're on stock shocks, you've found your problem. A complete set of 5100s will ride much better.as for the rake, the rear will drop after a week or 2.

The picture you posted seems like the 906's are right where they should be tbh.
As others have stated your issue lies in the shocks you are using(as far as ride quality goes). From personal experience i recommend investing in some Bilsteins all around. Your truck is almost 20 yrs old your shocks may be done if they're "original stock never been changed".

First I have heard of the 5th gen option!

Build a drawer system to help dampen the rear !

Anyone running the 881 with 4Runner specific 5100’s on other than the lowest perch? I know Wheelers recommends you keep them on the lowest perch but I’d like a bit more height. Is it because of the 881’s? It the only reason I can think of for recommending you not adjust an adjustable shock. Any insights? Thanks in advance!

I have 881/906 and it's pretty damn level - even while empty. It was still level with a couple hundred pounds of wildfire evacuation stuff in the rear. I did use new 5100s on bottom perch all around however..... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mine is level too...I was just hoping to get a bit more height and the fact that I have adjustable shocks that they recommend to “not” adjust is a bit frustrating.

Currently thinking going the ome 881/906 route with 5100 4runner specific

I have questions about this set up and keep finding dead threads on here.
wanting to go the route with the 881/906 and 4runner 5100s, i have a coastal offroad plate bumper 80#s and a 9000warn winch up front and a single mtx 12" sub in the rear which probably weighs around 50 odd#s and a bit of recovery gear.

2000 sr5 i do a bit of rugged offroading nothing beyond where i cannot get home that night
wondering if this is a good set up to go with and what else is potentially needed such as diff drop or pan hard correction, new bump stops, and so on.

in the end I'd really just want some good clarification on the set up

I would think that would be a too soft of a ride for me. Right now I have 881s with OME medium load springs in the front with a tjm bumper. The front is stiff. With a winch I would think it would ride good. If I had the 5100/881s with the tjm bumper and a winch I would think it would be bouncy/soft.

In the rear right now I have 906 with 4runner 5100s. Aftermarket coastal offroad high clearance bumper. With a little recovery gear. Its too soft for my liking. If I had no aftermarket weight in the back I think it would ride good.

The springs with medium load Ome shocks are too stiff for me. The 5100s with aftermarket weight too soft.

Diff drop, panhard correction and bumpstops are recommended. In that order as far as priority IMO. You will need an alligment also.

This is my take based off of what I have and what I've ran.

I'll be getting the toytec boss lift kit here soon and selling my OME lift kit.

good to know thanks, really seems like it's a try and decide type factor eh?
hard to get a good grasp on a solid answer every one has got different thoughts and feels for how to go about the mild lift

That is exactly my thought also. Everyone is running different weights and has different ideas on what a perfect ride should feel like. You can get a good idea of what to expect out of a spring/shock combo by asking around or asking the company who makes them but you'll never know what it's really going to feel like until you get it installed and it has time to settle. It can be nerve racking cause you are spending so much on something that you don't even know if you'll 100% like or not.

A lot of popular offroading companies don't even recommend the OME/Bilstein combo. This is a response I got from a Toytec representative when I asked about OME/Bilstein combo:

"Unfortunately Bilstein, Old Man Emu, ARB and a few other suspension companies don't recommend that setup OME/Bilstein shocks. The reason being is spring length/rate vs valving in the shocks vs inner spring diameter.

That combination "works" but you will reduce the lifetime of the shock since is designed to get softer the faster you go and OME springs and shocks are designed to carry weight."
