Do you have any impressions to share yet? I am looking for a set of rear shocks to match with my 6112 on 650lb since my Icon 2.0 did not last in my use (which is fine and kinda expected).

I like the bypasses, but dread the location of the adjusters (plus the compression adjuster is just one so I doubt it is very effective).

The finalists are Fox 2.5 DSC and Dobs MRA (latter should be better fit for the 6112) but I am also looking at the BP 51 as a dark horse.

Also, how does rebuilding a Bp-51 compare to rebuilding a non-bypass shock? Is it harder?

Unfortunately I have not had the time to install them yet. I'm in the middle of a move and my garage is a mess so I'll have to wait until everything is settled before I can get to it. Although I may just get impatient and just take them to a shop and have them done.

I bought them BP51's for a few reasons. Obviously ARB reliability, durability and capability. While they lean more towards a race shock from what I understand they use more oem style components and bushings and it seems like the ride life is a little longer before a rebuild than per-se fox/king/icon. That being said who, when, where you can have these rebuilt at is a big question.

I've only heard good things in terms of ride comfort on road. My intention with this kit and the Tacoma is more comfort and durability than performance. I also plan to put a camper on it so I wanted something that was meant to handle heavy constant load. An Aussie shock here seemed more appropriate here than say a race focused one as I'm not looking for pure performance in this case.

Another reason is the aluminum components on the shock body, top hats, and coil plate. I'm moving to Boise and I know they salt the roads up there so I didn't want to deal with corrosion and rust. We're planning to use the Taco and camper as our ski trip vehicle so it'll likely see a lot of pavement miles in ID, MT, WY, UT, CO where we'll see a lot of road salt. Not rust belt or NE levels but still. Having lived in UT previously for 3 winters the salt they used caused some mild surface rust on the frame but seized up some of my suspension components and LCA on my 4R. I had considered the Dobs MRA but those use steel shock bodies and I just didn't want to deal with any potential rust issues.

As far as compression and rebound adjustment, god only knows why ARB decided to place it where they did. Seems very much like a PITA. This will be a set it and forget it type of install. I'll likely change things as I add on weight but it won't be like my Icons or any other shock for that matter where I just turn the dial when I feel like it. Also from what I understand the coil adjustment is more for preload/weight and not ride height. To adjust coil preload it is recommended that you put it under a spring compressor. Turning it without may cause damage to the shock threads since it's aluminum.

There are definite pro's and con's to the BP-51 setup. I think for what I intend to use it for it'll be great and I've not heard many complaints from a performance standpoint as long as the expectations are realistic. The BP-51's are not a mid or long travel shock and not meant for desert racing. As well for all the levels of adjustment that my Icons on the 4R has I've only changed ride height once and essentially just leave the suspension on the softest setting. So it's not like I fiddle around with the adjustments all that much either.

I'll be sure to report back with more drive quality experience once I install them.

Anyone else seeing such poor customer service? I called ARB north america and the lady on the phone couldn't have been ruder, she told me that it'll show up when it shows up........

everything is backordered. What i found out is that most "online" shops are backordered, or shops that have a "online" presence are backordered.

However, my local offroad shop/mechanic has everything in stock (he doesn't sell online).

Point is, unless you are dead set on bp51's, I'd call around your local 4x4 shops that specializes in toyota's and see what they have in stock. You might be lucky, they might have Kings, radflo, elka, ADS, icon, bilsteins in stock... If I'm going to spend big money on suspension, they better be at least 2.5 inch diameter shocks, and easily rebuildable.. the rest is just gimmicks.

I am set on moving to this suspension after a stiff ride for 3 years. We'll see how long fulfillment takes but until then I'll keep wearing out what I got!

We have been receiving and shipping OME BP-51 Complete Kits on a monthly basis.

The challenge is, by the time the kits hit North America, they are all committed.

Once orders leave Australia, we get a ETA. Usually about 6-7 weeks.
