OME BP-51 Suspension System -- Anyone yet?

No sway bar drop. I'm running Camburg UCA.

I was sorting through mine getting ready to find a day to get them installed. The Front Fit kit comes with a sway bar relocation kit, like the one i've seen by toytec, icon etc.

found oily residue on one of my shocks by the comp/rebound settings, not sure if its normal, almost looks like its leaking oil?

Do you have any kind of a sway bar drop? When I did The Giz 's install we also did Total Chaos upper control arms but I can't remember if it was the OMEs or the UCAs that included the drop kit. Didn't seem to have any clearance issues.

I'm pretty sure it was OMEs but I'll double check.

On the road, how does the ride of this suspension compare to the stock setup?

My truck will have the stock weight so I'm concerned this will offer a harsh ride.

See how the sway bar comes down on the right side.

Also, Is it OK for the rear reservoir line to be so close to the frame? Look to the right of the pink tag. I put a piece of rubber in between so it don’t rub.

Spoke to ARB USA, here is the problem.

Toytec jumped the gun and sold me this kit saying it was for the 5th Gen 4Runner.

This is the FJ radiator drop kit, even though it says 4 Runner on the box. The radiator drop kit that came with the 5th Gen 4Runner BP51 shocks are for the FJ CRUISER.

I'm pissed.

ARB USA states they are 30-60 days away from having the radiator drop kit for the 5th Gen 4Runner.

This is a problem. I don’t want to drive the 4Runner without this radiator support bracket fearing radiator damage due to no support.

quick search on the forum shows that a lot of people have this issue,
I have hefty fabworks skids, and i don't think i can even do the radiator support kit because it uses the same mounting hole as the skid plate. Will probably get this sway bar relocation/radiator support kit done myself. fingers crossed!

just started reading this

will see how it goes later lol, didn't finish reading yet, but everyone has this problem.

I just moved the reservoirs back and forth in the bracket until I found a comfortable spot with enough clearance. As for the swap bar, mine was fine once I installed the sway bar and radiator relocation kits that came with the lift.

Respond if you have any questions. NG

OME BP-51 with JBA UCA installed

OK - I did a lot of research and hope that I made the right decisions. Marlin and his team just sent me my new JBA UCA's to be installed with the BP-51 suspension that came from ToyTec. I am trying to set up a new Overlanding rig for trail use and mild crawling and will be installing these components this week. As both these items (UCA and BP-51) seem to be in the minority of items selected for our T4R's throughout this and other forums, I would be happy to answer questions and give feedback to anyone interested in how these components work to improve the ride and off-road abilities of an already great 4-wheel drive.

Epilog

I had my OME BP-51 suspension installed along with new JBA UCA's on my 2016 Trail Premium T4R. The install, with breaks and the follow-up alignment, took about 8 hours. It was straight forward, though the instructions (still only FJ/Prada) were a little confusing at times for the brackets. The included sway bar and radiator relocations kits all fit with no issues. The kit did not come with a spanner wrench so I could not adjust the coil over preload and left it at 20mm. In the end, it worked out fine as the lift ended up about 3.75 in the rear and 3.25 in the front. You cannot visually see the rake, and the T4R looks level, so I was happy with the results. As for the Compression and Rebound settings, after talking with David at ToyTec, I set the front C at 2 and R at 5 and the rear was C at 2 and R at 4 as I used the OME 889 medium springs. His recommendation for a rig with mild weight (sliders and skids) was C at 1-4 and R at 4-8. I went on the lighter side, and the ride is good for a lifted vehicle. The ride is firm but not harsh. Gone is the body sway on turns and the hood bob when breaking. Bumps are felt but not as harsh on rough roads as pre-lift and handling is tighter and improved at highway speeds (75 mph as it is Colorado). The JBA UCA's work great with this lift and the alignment came in great after a few readjustments after the installation. (See the pictures) Respond if you have any questions and I will see if I can give you the answers.

good to know that you got it to work without sway bar rub. i have jba arms and putting in the bp-51 soon.

You cannot adjust the ride height unless you have this in a spring compressor. BP-51 cannot be adjusted while under load.

Understood - I have one at the shop but not the right diameter spanner wrench to fit the shock body. I am glad anyway as the T4R seems pretty level and if I reduced the front from 20 mm to 12mm as planned, I probably would have seen more rack to the front than I wanted.

FYI - I have RCI skids and no issues reinstalling them after the sway bar and radiator kits installed. I have no rubbing of anything at this time.

Didn't install bp-51 yet. But installed the bp-51 sway bar relocate, toytec radiator support drop, and a diff drop I got from Amazon.

Sway bar is 1sheet of paper away from radiator support on drivers side.

Help me out guys... Has anyone bought the OME BP-51 System for the 4Runner?

Shoot, I didn't realize OME BP-51s were $1600! Instead, I'd suggest getting either the Kings with Click Adjust, Fox with DSC, ICONs with CVDCs or any of these without the compression adjustment! I had assumed they were a premium suspension that would be 40% cheaper than these 3 options. Plus, the Kings, Fox and Icons are all 2.5".

what experience do you have with these 4 setups? in a 5th gen runner?

No experience in a 5th gen, Fox or with an OME BP. I'd actually recommend the 2.5" Kings, Fox or Bilstein's over anything else because well, they win races. I have Icons w/ CVDC in my 4th Gen and it's currently a bit heavier than a 5th gen and the ride stays nice and plush on long & higher speed trails (35-45mph). My friend has Kings with reservoirs on his GX470 and is also currently heavier than the 5th gen and rides similar at those speeds. The Kings do have a bit softer ride on slower trails.
The standard OMEs are great - low cost, durable and decent ride. However, the OME BP-51s are way too over priced for a 2" damper, can't rebuild or tune them and they need to be removed to adjust the preload.
You can watch this video that goes into the OME-BP51 at the 12:00 mark.

I'm an ARB/OME brand whore but that video and Filthy's website was enough to make me reconsider....

OMEs dampers are great especially the price of the regular yellow version. However, the BP-51 price are just too high for a 2" damper. The Terain Tamer Pro dampers with reservoirs and adjustable compression is a better option, at a reasonable cost, I believe they are about $600ish for the fronts. I think Cruiser Brothers sells them.
IMO, the only good choices for higher end resi dampers are Kings, Fox, Bilstein and Icon.

Sorry if discussed elsewhere

I just came across the BP-51 and I was really interested n this set up since everyone seem to like the OEM... but after reading this thread seems like they're not a good option? Has the issue been resolved or should I look elsewhere for another suspension kit? (2016 trail premium with KDSS, stock suspension for now).

The current hotness is King Shocks so all others must pale in comparison.

Seriously, what are you looking for? Something to look good or offroad performance (e.g. crawling, high-speed)?
