IF the 4Runner is the mid-sized SUV, what is Toyota's full size SUV then?
I would call the Sequoia a "Suburban". Also, is the Highlander the small-sized SUV? And the RAV4 is the what???? Baby SUV? :lmao:

The Sequoia is a full-size SUV. You can call it a Suburban if you want, but it's still a full-size SUV. I'm not sure how you figure a "Suburban" is a size classification.

The 4Runner is similar in size to all the other mid-size SUVs, including Explorers, Pathfiners, Trailblazers, etc... Even the Highlander is now very similar in size to the 4Runner. They are all considered mid-size SUVs and not full-size by any stretch of the imagination. Park a 4Runner next to a true full-size SUV and it will look very small by comparison.

Actually 3rd gen 4Runners were considered a midsize SUV as well. The RAV4 was considered a compact. I always found it amusing that a Tacoma was a compact truck and a 4Runner at essentially the same size was midsize.

It looks like shit. Forget about reducing drag. Seriously, how much better can it be? 0.01%? Frontal surface area is where big differences are made in creating low drag.

BTW, the 4Runner is not a full-size SUV. It's mid-sized if anything. And if I wanted low drag, I'd buy a Prius. People don't buy SUVs for aerodynamics, or fuel economy for that matter.

I really hate that steering wheel, it looks like something out of an old, bad SciFi movie.

No, V8, Mast Ant, crappy looking steering wheel, crappy shifter, and cheap plastic.

You know what the new 4Runner reminds me of? Those cheap stereos they sell at Walmart or Best buy, they throw on all sorts of knobs, shiny plastic, and an EQ screen, but the meat of it is cheap.

It'll impress all sorts of shoppers, but the 4Runner fans'll notice the cheapness.

I honestly think going from a 4thGen to a 5thGen is a step down

The Highlander is not an SUV, nor is it "small-sized." The latest version of the Highlander was upsized to better accommodate a 3rd row. It is now bigger than a 4Runner. It is a midsize crossover, competing with the Honda Pilot.

The Highlander does not appear to be bigger than the 4Runner anymore.

They were parked next to each other at the local stealership and the 4Runner now appears to be larger in every dimension.

They look almost identical in exterior dimensions. On the inside, the Highlander probably has more room, due to a lower floor height and an independent rear suspension.

I think you kind of hit the nail on the head about how we 3rd gen enthusiasts felt about the 4th gen. No 4th gen owners ever seemed to understand, now maybe they will.

I still don't understand. I went from a 3rd gen to a 4th gen (which I still currently own) and the 4th gen is just so much better in my opinion, especially if you're talking about the interior.

If you were to compare the interiors of a 3rd and 4th gen today, the 3rd gen looks really dated (which it should, considering that it was designed so long ago) and cramped, especially in leg room. The steering wheel and shifter look very old school and the basic dash layout is also very dated.

As far as exterior styling, an argument can be made either way, as there are fans of each body style for sure. But it would be hard to make an argument that the 3rd gen doesn't look dated sitting next to a 4th gen. And again, it should look dated because it was designed a long time ago.

But where the 4th gen absolutely shined over the 3rd gen is in it's much more powerful engine (even the V6, forget about the V8) and suspension, which provided a much improved ride over the 3rd gen.

So overall, no I don't understand how you think 4th gen owners will know how you feel now that the 5th gen is here.

I understood, I just didn't agree. The 4th Gen was a big change from the 3rd Gen, but it was more refined with better power. My only real complaint with the 4th Gen is the ugly AC controls and the stupid location of the 12v and AC power socket. FWIW: I hated the 4th Gen body style when I first saw it

The 5th Gen has things that make it look cheap, which is my problem with it. I'm okay with the body style. What the heck it with Toyota and their use of this plastic silver crap on their interiors! and they are getting worse about it.
