Opinions - GreenLane Offroad Sliders/Aluminum Armor

I just installed some Greenlane sliders on my 5th gen. Although they're called sliders, I think of them more as "rocker guards" because of the questionable strength of aluminum vs. steel. This suits me just fine though - in my case I often encounter situations where I risk hitting the rocker panels but I'm a casual off-roader and I avoid situations where I would expect to actually slide on rocks or need to perform a recovery using the sliders. I'm on saltwater boat ramps a lot, so aluminum is pretty necessary.

The quality of the product is exceptional and they went on pretty easily, but I have a couple of complaints. First, the pre-drilled hole for one of the KDSS hangers did not line up (not even close). I could've drilled a new hole in the slider frame plate but I was almost done with the installation when I discovered it, so I just left it off. The second complaint is that the bolt for the e-brake cable (which has to be removed and installed over the slider frame plate) won't fit once the slider is installed (too short), and Greenlane does not include replacement bolts. After fiddling with it for way too long, I finally spent some time tracking down replacement bolts (M8 x 1.25, word to the wise).

Overall, it's a good product if you're in the market for aluminum sliders or rocker guards. Oh yeah, shipping was fine ... they were very well protected.

I’ve had mine on for about a month with zero complaints. I opted for a custom, 0* with top plate and kick out slider. The aluminum welds are exceptional, powder coating seems robust in the limited time I’ve had them, and installation was very easy - no instructions required. Being in the Great Lakes region, road salt and brine are used in abundance so aluminum was the better long term solution for my needs. The COVID thing slowed shipping and customs clearance by a few days, but they arrived very well packaged, free from damage. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy more gear from Greenlane. Donovan is a good guy and makes himself available to answer questions/concerns especially with a custom build request.

That looks great. I've been eyeballing these and debating the two versions, but flat with the kickout seems like the best combo.

Definitely recommend them. They aren’t listed on the site, but this configuration is actually what’s on their shop 4R, too.

OK finally had a chance to install.

GreenLane has a second design - a slider with a bump out. They are the same aluminum construction, but just a different design. You can get them with a full top plate, partial, or none. Design and construction is outstanding. I'm super happy with how they turned out.

They are 22 pounds each. Some shots for those interested:

Sorry, what are you looking for? I have them (+ ladder on order) and they are great - well made, no rust, lightweight. That's the beauty of aluminum - salt wont matter.

I just went through a winter here in Calgary (they use a ton of salt) and my Greenlane sliders look exactly the same as the day I put them on.

Over a year installed and no issues with my angled sliders. Have a few small rock chips in paint (painted myself with rustoleum bed liner) and so awesome to see silver and no rust. And I can take my time touching them up without any rust spreading.

I plan to get some greenlanes when my xreas goes out and I shift to a standard suspension set up. factory XREAS going strong after 13+ years. I only would put the standard sliders on (for non limited trim)

if you have the limited I would think carefully about the version for the limited, it is not as robust because it has to accommodate XREAS. they will bend.

if you are looking at the regular version they are a great weight to strength compromise. not as strong as steel but wont rust. HUGE WIN. and are plenty strong for most of what we do on the trails. not many people are slamming their rigs onto boulders. the standard sliders will be fine for accidental contact

Yes I picked up a pair angled bump out have had them on 3 years now been great. I am a hunter and outdoors Man not a rock crawler and they have been great.
