Opinions on storage solutions

Hope everyone is well. :)

Now that it is Winter I need a project so I decided with the help of my friend I'm going to make my own storage/drawers. My buddy is a very talented cabinet maker so I'm comfortable with the fab, more looking for ideas such as number of compartments etc. Maybe you made yours and after wished you would have done something else, or used a different hinge/handle etc? Thats the type of info i'm looking for.

Thanks ahead of time and Merry Christmas!

Start by searching for storage, you'll find lots of ideas, write-ups and pics of what people have already done.

I searched many.....

I looked through many threads before i posted. I'm looking for info that I mentioned....which is basically stuff people don't always post.

I use a combination of soft sided bags and plastic toolboxes in my two large drawers.

Seems pretty easy to keep organized....and doesn't float all over

I could provide pictures when it gets light tomorrow if you wanted to see it.

Thank you for the concern JayG..we fared well at home, and work is finally back to normal.

I carry a socket set-gearwrenches (SAE and Metric)/gloves/12v LED spotlights/plastic dropcloth/air hose-tirepatch kit-gauge/some light recovery gear/hitch w-2" ball/road flares/flashlights/poncho/safety glasses-hearing protection/first aid kit/ paracord/ jumper cables/assorted screw drivers/tapes/tiedown(s)-straps..and probably twice as much crap as I need.

I have a Google Sketch Up file of the drawers if you need it.

here ya go..

Nice set up!

Thanks TitanPat! I would love to see the google sketch!

Thanks for the list of supplies as well. :)

I'm about to build my own drawer and drew it up on paper (I was about to buy my saw and sawhorses but was told to wait till XMas so it's on hold for a couple more weeks). I plan on putting in permanent dividers of 1x in the drawer so that I don't have to fill up the thing completely all at once (in part because I'm still building my emergency kit up) and stuff doesn't slide around and disappear on me. Also like things in there compartmentalized place, but that's more personal preference.

Another thing I'm planning on doing is lining the bottom of my drawer with auto carpet to minimize vibration noises from gear stacked in the drawer (i.e. the camping axe and saw set next to each other in the drawer.

Also check out Woodcraft, mikeys2010SR5 pointed me in that direction for slides. They have physical locations too, with knowledgeable staff. In addition to slides, they also have prefab drawer kits as well that you could modify to be a bit more rugged than standard cabinetry drawers.
