option bundles - screwed again!

OK maybe it's just my me, but I think Toyota's option bundling sux!

I couldn't buy a 4th gen, because I was never able to find a (2006 or later) Sport Model WITHOUT a sunroof. I'm only 6'2 but my head hit the ceiling in Gen 4's equipped with a sunroof. I know we all have our grumbles, but this is two Gen's in a row with no 4Runner for me.

On the Gen 5....#1 problem = 5000 lb towing weight limit

Assuming I can get past that hurdle:

SR5 - OK, I'm really excited...They lowered the floorboards so maybe I can finally fit inside with their "mandatory sunroof". OOOPS, what's this? Toyota won't let you get the X-REAS or KINETIC suspension option with the SR5. Also when you check 4 wheel drive option you automatically get a $3495 convenience package.....$3000 of which I don't really want. (damn sunroof just won't go away, must be a big profit margin for that option)

Trail Version - OK I can get the KSS, but only if you purchase the expensive Navigation system as well. Why are these two items linked? Also the Trail is only offered in exterior colors of Silver or Black in my area. Hey, I know it's just me but I don't happen to want Navigation with my KSS, or to sit on waterproof seat fabric (who remembers sweaty vinyl seats?), or a silver or black exterior. Close but no cigar.

Limited - Not that I'm willing to pay $8k more than the SR5, but if you want 4WD it's only available in "full time" mode .

3 strikes I'm out.

I love 4Runners and my 3rd Gen was the most reliable I ever owner. You could get any combinations of options back then. I'd love to get a 5th Gen but I guess Toyota just doesn't want to sell me one. Maybe if they put the V8 in the Trail or bring out a Sport model, I can come back for a second look.

Not too rain on anyone else's parade. If they build one for you, enjoy. Should be a fun new toy!

I believe more colors will be available in the future. Toyota's web site shows photos of 4Runners in a number of colors, even though the configurator currently only allows you to build in silver, black, and blizzard pearl.

So I'm hoping they will bring more colors (particularly interior colors) online before too long.

Islands...Don't knock the TE water repellant fabric--not waterproof, not vinyl, not rubber. They are really great seats, not sweaty, and easier to keep clean than the standard Toyota Fabric, and one of the reasons I grabbed the TE when available. They are similar to the FJ Cruiser seats, with a different bolster. I am guessing that the 10 4Runner TE seats are nearly the same.

And, yes, my TE is silver - actually Titanium Metallic

That's good info on the seats. If the fabric is comfortable I see how it could actually be an advantage for keeping clean. I'll have to take a look and re-evaluate on that.

Unfortunately my wife says no to the black and silver (her car most of the time). Maybe when she sees the silver Trail with black trim, who knows?

Personally, I prefer leather over fabric. And I don't like dark-colored seats -- too hot in the summer. Nor will buy another black car -- also too hot in the summer.

Silver exterior is fine with me, as long as I can get the interior in tan or gray, etc.

I hear ya. Why don't they just be honest and say that the 4X4 option is another $3400 up front? BTW How the heck can a Land cruiser cost about dubble what a 4runner is now???

My personal opinion only, but perhaps because my TE is titanium, and I used a windshield screen, it didn't feel any hotter on the seats than the many grey fabric 4Runners or other cars that we moved this summer. And it sits in the direct sun all day. The temps in Sacramento hit the high 90's and low 100's most all summer. Having a mix of grey interior colors with the dark seats may have helped. My co-workers, who will complain about anything, beefed more about their hot leather seats, of any color, than anything else this summer. My leather steering wheel is black, but the sunguard helped there.

I do agree about the black outside color.

I feel your pain, I'm 6'-2" also and that's why our 4Runner doesn't have a moonroof.

Headroom W/O moonroof: 4th gen=39.7 5th gen=39.3

Headroom W/ moonroof: 4th gen=38.3 5th gen=38.6

Shoulder room: 4th gen=58.0 5th gen=57.8

Hip room: 4th gen=55.3 5th gen=56.5

Leg room: 4th gen=41.8 5th gen=41.7

You gain .3 in. with a moonroof, lose .4 in. without.

I'm 6'5" and was also hoping for a little more headroom. I fit great in the Highlander and was hoping that Toyota would push the 5th gen's roof a little higher....
