Orange Liquid in Air Box

So, I took out air box to do some engine work. When I tip it, out comes this "orange liquid". Granted, I am new to Toyota, but I have never seen an airbox with liquid in it. It appears to be anti-freeze, so I am thinking the previous owner put anit-freeze in it, but why?!?

The only answer I can think of would be to kill off any rodents that wanted to winter over in the air box. Field mice are infamous for making nests in various types of air boxes.

Nope, factory. Besides it was not light oil, it was about a qt of orange anti-freeze.

I did clean it and putting in new filter. But I still had the burning question as to why.

Maybe the radiator hose busted and coolant went everywhere, I'm guessing the coolant in the radiator is orange? Who knows, people do dumb ****...

It is green.

That's good. That means it is not coming from YOUR coolant system. I'm thinking "combat" may be on the right trail. Maybe a hose blew sometime in the past and the coolant leaked into the box? Once what ever blew was replaced, it was filled with green fluid instead of orange. Of course there is the rodent thing. Maybe the PO had some issues with mice and that was his fix.

How long have you have the 4Runner? Is this your first time with the air-box box? Do any hoses look newer than the others? If this is the first time you have had it open, then I would clean it out, close it up and check it again later. Unless you have a friend sneaking over to mess with you or you get some green fluid in there, I would bet it is from a previous mishap.

It is weird and I too would love to know how this came about.

Ok, after further investigation, it did not come from airbox. There is a black tank mounted with it, it connects to a steal tubing by the upper manifold. I had it hanging out side and it appeared to come from airbox, it did not.

Trying to locate what this hose is for.

This is my daughter's truck, she has had it for a year. She has complained about mpg, so I figure I would break it down and do the std. Plugs, filter, distributer cap/rotor.
