Ordered a "Plug and Play" Android headunit

Posting here instead of making a new thread.

Going to order the Atoto A6Y for my 2003 Limited with the JBL system. I sent email to atato support to see if there was anything extra I would need to interface with the JBL system but I also wanted to check here to see if anyone else has already done the install with the JBL system and got everything working.

The plan is to slowly eliminate all the JBL stuff but I need to do it in stages.

I've seen some stuff about the Maestro SW for the 03-05 4R. Anyone using that? Will I need that with the A6Y?

From what I understand, you don't need any adaptors for an Android head unit. The unit allows you to program what buttons do what, its very cool.

The few people I've seen who install Android units seem to work just fine.

But is that with the JBL factory system? I'm having to work with that until I can fully eliminate it.

When in Rome...these units are solid and simple for a 2004 non JBL??

i have been entertaining the idea of smokers kit and 12V Anker BT transmitter for some phone connectivity ($50 total and fantastic reviews on the anker transmitter, as in 5,000 reviews 4.5 stars) but im thinking since i have to lift the console for smokers kit (i know i could use transmitter with non smokers kit but i run radar and charger on horizontal splitter, want to retain that) maybe i should put in one of these units instead...

i want reliability compared to sound quality. and easy fitment, and these things are just $50 more than the smokers kit and anker transmitter...might still go this route.

thanks

Pretty sure with the non-JBL you are golden with the A6Y head unit.

I'd still get the smokers kit since it gives you additional power ports. I plan on putting one in mine still.

xtremewlr let me know when you head back from them. 2004 Limited w/ JBL over here and I haven't pulled the trigger on anything due to the lack of info. I'd love to know what they say!

Unfortunately, it's Chinese New Year for them so support might be a while getting back. Said screw it and ordered stuff, guess I'll figure it out as I go once it gets here.

Thanks for taking one for the team! I'm back and forth between ATOTO and XTRONS, which is realize is a little ridiculous when you think about it. I just want the one that works ha.

Yes, you need to communicate with the manufacture that you have the JBL amp and they will supply (sell) you some module so the headunit will work.

Yeah, I sent them email but it's Chinese New Year there so little to no support. I ordered up the Metra 70-8113 Amplifier Integration Harness for Select 2000-2004 Toyota Vehicles for the amp interface, hopefully that works. I should have just about everything tomorrow and will be attempting the install this weekend.

This is the additional harness needed to connect the A6Y to the stock JBL amp. Heard back from support last night.

Amazon.com: PAC TATO JBL Amplifier Turn-On Interface for Toyota Vehicles: Car Electronics

I'll run that for now and eventually remove/replace the JBL amp with something more modern when I do the rest of the speakers.
You are a gentleman and a scholar. Pics or a video would be HUGE for all us jbl folks. Finally put all this ambiguity to rest.

Going to do the install this weekend, should have almost everything by then I hope. I'll take pics as long as I remember. Forget sometimes when I get into the moment and am getting shit done.

Head unit and some other stuff showed up today. Have the JBL interface showing up tomorrow.

Any install tips you might have would be supremely helpful. I'm going to start on it tonight after work.

Which year/trim do you have? I mainly used youtube videos to figure out wiring up my backup cam and steering wheel controls. Other than that it was pretty straight forward with wiring the harness to the adapter. Make sure you adjust the gain for your music before putting the unit in and putting the dash back together.
