OTRE trouble , Castle Nut and Bolt just spin...Can't tighten?

I apologize for bringing back an old thread, but I'd like to add my experience.

A few months and 10K miles ago I replaced my LBJs, UBJs, and OTREs on my '98 Limited (262K) with OEM parts from Camelback Toyota. I will say that when my order first came in I had only received one OTRE from my order, waited a week, still nothing. I gave them a call and a real nice dude helped me out and got me the rest of the parts shipped no problem.

Cut to installation: did the driver's (left) side, no problem, except for the UBJ where I ended up splitting my spindle and having to get a new one, which is a whole different story. Got done with the passenger (right) side of the truck with everything torqued on the BJs. Went to slip in the OTRE stud to my LBJ and the thing slipped right through, with no tension from the tapered end of the stud and falling right down to the boot. Putting the castle nut on, it went way down past the hole for the cotter pin before it would finally get some sort of torque and was squishing the hell out of the boot, oozing out grease.

Now I knew something was very wrong and had to be addressed, but after doing the whole job I was ready to be done and figured I would just watch it over time (very lazy). Drove with it like that on over 5 wheeling trips out of state this summer, noticed drastic "wobbling" when coming to stops, to a dangerous degree sometimes, but I ignored it. Cut to 10K miles later last Sunday, I had gotten my new 235/85/16 Wildpeak A/T3s mounted, lift cranked up and was going in for an alignment, so I wanted to address the OTRE before getting this all set up, especially before the winter. Glad I looked, because this OTRE was shredded, the castle nut was loose with only the cotter pin keeping it on. And to boot, this was all my fault as a result of my ignorance. I should have figured it out right away when I had first redone the front end. Should have checked received part numbers and yada yada yada.

So, I found this thread, figured I had either received the wrong LBJ (not 43330-39585), or it was a machining error during manufacture. So reading that the Taco OTRE studs were thicker, I picked up a OTRE for a '98 Taco from Napa (Napa Chassis Parts: NCP 2693170, right w/power steering), took out the destroyed one, popped this sucker in there, greased the boot, and the stud slipped into the LBJ hole perfectly. Cinched right down with the castle nut right where the cotter pin should be (not squishing the boot), torqued to 67 ft lbs, and it was perfect.

So after all my rambling, not sure if I received a Taco, Sequoia/Tundra LBJ, or something else (looked the same as the driver's side), but the Taco OTRE from Napa fit perfect and is holding strong. Just wanted to share my story in hopes in could help someone else out, someday.
