Aloha,

As I mentioned in the thread title, I have a 91' 3.0 Manual.
The vehicle DOES qualify for both the head gasket replacement & steering relay.

My question is this....
Being that there is no sign of a HG problem...do I keep driving until the HG blows? kinda like a "get out of jail free" for the dealership to pick up the cost

OR

Do I take the vehicle in for the recall service to be completed before any problems occur?

any pros and cons to this strategy???

The HG "recall" wouldn't apply unless a HG was actually blown, and that "recall" ended a few years back.
The steering relay rod campaign is still in effect AFAIK, but a Toyota dealer can answer both your questions.

I took my vin number in this morning to the stealership...according to them I still qualify for both.
 
I agree with comet. You could damage a lot more if you wait and if you need any other work done on the engine (TB & water pump) the labor would probably less expensive since they are already in there.
Plus you should be good for another 50-100k with the new HG's.

Thanks for the responses. Although I'm kinda shook now after fourwd1's comment. It might be safer for me to doublecheck with the stealership just in case SHE gave me some bunk info haha. sigh..


But really, I know a lot of people probly show up to this web site only when there is a problem.seems like that would get quite frustrating. Thanks for your opinions.

The HG recall is STILL in effect. I called corporate Toyota and they are still doing them.

To the OP, if you search on Yotatech about this issue you will find that the dealership is replacing the engine with a new one IF the engine gets damaged caused by the head gasket failing. Do a search and you will find out more info than here.

You can get it done without the HG's going bad. My brother brought in his 93 Pickup for a basic maintenance and they performed the HG recall for him. Better to get it. You should be fine for at least 50k and you'll probably get a new car by that time.

Do you have that #? I have tried to talk to a local dealer and they had no idea what I was talking about... Who have you have talked to or contacted successfully? Thanks guys...

If that Dealer doesn't know what's up go somewhere else just my 0.02...Dealers should know what's up.

Well I just got off the phone with Toyota and all of the recalls have been done so I guess I have to replace the valve cover gaskets on my own...:crybaby: j/k
