Oxygen Sensor issue.

So my 2008 with 220k miles was throwing the P0051 code. I replaced the o2 sensor and cleared the codes. Drove the car for about an hour, no lights came on. As soon as I restarted the car, a few seconds later the p2238 code comes on. When I clear it, it stays off until I restart the car. With the P0051 code it would come back on instantly after clearing it. Should I disconnect the battery to try to get rid of it? I'm not sure what the issue is.

The sensor at fault is not an O2 sensor, it is an A/F sensor. Can you confirm you replaced bank 2 sensor 1 with an A/F sensor?

An oxygen sensor is the same thing as air/fuel sensor. No? I replaced the one on driver's side before the cat.

Yes, that's the correct location.
They are sort of the same, but the A/F sensor reads a wider range and produces a different voltage output. If you mistakenly put the wrong type of sensor in, that could be the reason you're still getting codes. What sensor brand and part number did you use?

Well, there's some confusion here. P0051 is for Bank 2, Sensor 1. P2238 is for Bank 1, Sensor 1. Two different banks involved.

Also, which engine do you have. For the V6, bank 1 is on the passenger side. For the V8, bank 1 is on the driver's side.

Bosch 15988 is correct for upstream A/F sensor for V6, so that would have been the correct replacement, on the driver's side, for code P0051. Your code P2238 is coming from the other bank.

Use OEM only. You'll continue to run into issues until you use Toyota parts for ignition and emission control.

You can get OEM parts not from the dealership. I got my O2 sensor off Amazon. Same exact sensor you would get from the dealer, just not in a Toyota box is all. 1/2 the cost.

I said OEM. Not parts from the Toyota parts counter. There is not a Bosch part on any Toyota from the factory such as the O2 sensor the OP used.
