P or C-load range 285/75R16s or 255/85R16s?

I have 285/75R16 KO2s on my 4Runner now and they are too heavy (58.7lbs, per BFG). I've lost about 4.5mpg from the 265/70s I had on it prior to these, which means my fuel range to 1/4 tank is about 225 miles. Does anyone have experience with some lighter 285s or 255/85s? I really like the ST Maxx and they seem to be well regarded here, but they're even heavier than the KO2.

It seems like EVERY ~33" all terrain for 16" wheels is E-load range. This is frustrating. I don't even care about spending more on gas, I just hate having lost 25% of my fuel range.

First, keep in mind that your odometer is off by a little over 7% compared to the smaller tires. Have you taken that into account in your mileage calculations? If you haven't, that can account for about 1.5 mpg right there. The other thing is that for any given tire pressure, E rated tires have more sidewall losses, costing you mileage. Try inflating them to at least 40psi to recover some mileage.

Most KO2 sizes come in C-rated load range, which would be better for your application. You might have to special order them, but I've had good luck with Discount Tire in that regard.
