Man I don't envy you guys with timing belts. The V8 seems great, but that is a lot of work you did. I'm glad you were able to figure it out. It turns out TIS wouldn't have helped me.
I forgot that I had posted on this thread, but I did end up fixing my issue for the most part. That oil leak didn't go away so I took the timing cover off to reseal it. While doing that I noticed that my main chain guide had a piece missing where the tensioner pushes on the guide. This forced the tensioner to be super extended and was throwing off the timing I think. Either that or I really was off by a tooth.
I put a new chain guide on, sealed up the timing cover again and it runs much better now. My MPGs have been in the 12-15mpg range since I did all that work though. I'm still working on trying to figure out if it's a stuck brake caliper, torque converter going bad, worn out fuel injectors or something else like the valve buckets being out of spec. I've only gone 30k miles in the last 4 years and gas was cheap so the MPGs haven't really bothered me until recently.
