P0016 and P0018 V8 VVTi 2005 Sport

Man I don't envy you guys with timing belts. The V8 seems great, but that is a lot of work you did. I'm glad you were able to figure it out. It turns out TIS wouldn't have helped me.

I forgot that I had posted on this thread, but I did end up fixing my issue for the most part. That oil leak didn't go away so I took the timing cover off to reseal it. While doing that I noticed that my main chain guide had a piece missing where the tensioner pushes on the guide. This forced the tensioner to be super extended and was throwing off the timing I think. Either that or I really was off by a tooth.

I put a new chain guide on, sealed up the timing cover again and it runs much better now. My MPGs have been in the 12-15mpg range since I did all that work though. I'm still working on trying to figure out if it's a stuck brake caliper, torque converter going bad, worn out fuel injectors or something else like the valve buckets being out of spec. I've only gone 30k miles in the last 4 years and gas was cheap so the MPGs haven't really bothered me until recently.

Reviving this.

P0016

2006 4runner v8. Timing belt done at 100k, code thrown at 130k, very similar to OP. Have an apt Monday at a local shop. Still not much info on this code out there currently.

Did your local shop happen to figure it out, I'm running in same problems right now.
P0016 and P0018 on a 2006 V8 2UZ-FE
Timing belt 100k, currently at 150k.
Starts good, idles rough where the rpms dip and rises for a few seconds that causes a jerkiness/hesitation. This same jerkiness/hesitation seems to happen while engine is up to temp and driving while rpms around 1300-1600. Happens more when engaged in D or R and the brakes compressed, or when the ac compressor cycles on, but than it can go a few mins without any type of misfire.

Throttle cleaned. Oil changed a month ago. Checked both VVTI solenoids. Got quoted 400$ just to check the timing. At which point might as well just buy the kit and do the whole kit replacement.
