P0755 code

Hello!

Im experiencing an issue with my transmission. I got this P0755 (shift solenoid B) on my 02 4runner (automatic trans.). I also get an issue with the reverse gear. When in reverse, it doesn't do anything (acts like in neutral) & I also noticed that this happens when its warm/hot as it did not happen a lot during winter. The reverse still works sometimes (I keep shifting till I get the reverse engage). After searching the forum, I saw that I should replace the solenoids (all 3). I saw that the kit is about $300 @ rockauto :wow2:.

Now, I am looking for more info/comments on what to do.

So before buying the solenoids and dropping the pan, is there something else I should check? (like other parts that may cause this issue)

You don't have to replace all three if you can figure out which is the offending solenoid, that will save a few hundred. If you can check the transmission fluid level via the dipstick first though. Try checking on flat ground when the transmission is warmed up after a drive. If low, add more fluid. Also check the color of the fluid:

If fluid level and color checks out, the only thing left to do is to drop the pan and change out the solenoid. It's not hard, only one 10mm bolt holds it on. Worth cleaning out the metal filter (you don't have to replace, a good cleaning goes a long way) and clean off the magnets on the bottom of the pan. A tip to make reassembly easier: buy a cork gasket off Rockauto.com instead of using the goopy sealant. Less leaks and less mess.

Thank you! The fluid looks like "good". and level is good too.. I bought the solenoid kit. I cannot find a cork gasket, so I bought this: Felpro gasket (not sure if thats a good gasket)

That will work just fine. Be careful not to over torque the little pan bolts, some yahoo stripped about 5 of mine before I bought it. Try and scrape off as much of the old sealant off the pan and transmission. The more of the old stuff you can get off the less chance it will leak.

Thanks for the tip on torque. So do I need to add more torque than the one for FIPG? or less? since i have a rubber gasket...

The same. Those little threads cannot handle anything tighter. The gasket itself isn't immersed in fluid so it only has to be tight enough not to have gaps.
