Paint Rust Spot Removal.

Okay, So I have a few tiny tiny rust spots on the paint going around my rig. I want the rust gone but I don't know the best way to do so. I know I basically get to sand it down and touch up the paint, but whats the best way to do so? I'll post pictures of the rust ASAP.

It depends on the rust. If it isn't rusted all the way through, you can usually use a wire wheel to remove the rust, treat it with a rust converter (like Ospho, just to be safe), prime, prime with high-build primer, sand, prime again, sand again . . . then paint.

If it's rusted through, you'll need to cut out the old metal and weld in new metal patches, grind down the welds, fill with bondo, prime, sand, prime, sand again . . . then paint.

Sometimes what appears to be surface rust is really rust coming through from the inside, so using the wire wheel will expose that (when you begin to see light coming through from the other side - you know you have more than surface rust).

On my ranger i wire wheeled it and the surrounding area to bare metal, got some rustoleum primer, then sprayed some rustoluem matching paint, came out like 75% but the rust never came out, had i taped it off better and clear coated it probably could have made it look way nicer.

Thank you! I do believe it is surface rust. Or at least I hope it is.

Any recommendations on paint? Considering mine is a fading white. Any ideas on what to use? I recognize I probably won't find anything that will truly match it.

How would you go about taping it off to paint? So it doesn't just look like a square of paint?
