Painted Rims Satin Black today! 1996 Silver 4runner

Finally got around too painting the rims today, used the Duplicolor Satin black, which is now discontinued, bought a couple extra cans just touch ups later on. Really sad they got rid of this color in the wheel paint line up.

3 coats duplicolor self etching primer sanded with 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper
4-5 coats of Satin black Duplicolor wheel paint.

I think it looks a lot better.

No, I really was thinking of doing all the body parts but after looking at many other trucks I dont like the look of all black on the bottom, I like the somewhat factory look. But I will be getting tube bumpers front rear and sliders that will match. Also going to buy some new black lugs so they dont chip. Body armor is next on the list.

And I'm with you on the factory look. I really like the way these trucks look coming out of the factory, kind of wanted to keep that look.

I personally like the silver lugs. It balances the all the black lower to the DD silver body.

Thanks for all the love guys!! I agree I kind of like the silver lugs too, going to keep it that way for a bit. Hopefully within the month I will get my tube front bumper. Tired of the stocker chrome bumpers but dont want to go as far as painting them.

Looks awesome! Thanks for the photos. I found a set of 99 rims and was curious how they would look when painted black since that's what I would be buying them for. This helped tremendously in my final decisions. I'll post up some pics when it's finished.

Nice, Im glad it helped someone. I wanted to find a limited silver with good rim pics painted black and couldnt find any. Thats why I made the description good for searching purposes.

On a side note I with the same satin, I painted my grill black and my rear spoiler which was pretty scuffed up. Looks pretty good with teh black grill, I'll post up pics of grill when I get home.

Wanna feel like you're driving one??? Paint the center sections of your bumper, and lower valance black.... and it will have the same look as the Evo up front!

LOL way ahead of you, I already photo shopped a photo after my brother gave me the same idea and it didnt look as good as I thought it would, I think I will do it before I put my new bumper on just for fun.

I used the newish Krylon Dual compound Primer/Paint combo in the rattle can. It was the Satin Black color and it's about $6 per can. Turned out exactly how I wanted it. I wasn't sure how well it would work or how durable it is. So after some trail time I'll give an update on that paint and how well it works on Alum Rims.
