Painting Tundra rims

I'm trying to paint my Tundra 5 spoke rims and having a bit of an issue. I was trying just a small area to make sure I liked the color. Problem I'm having is getting between the spokes.

For those that have painted these rims, how did you get in this small area without causing runs on the adjoining spokes?

Use more thin coats vs using few heavier coats. Also increasing the distance you spray from will also help. Its more time consuming and you will end up going through more paint because of overspray, but its the best way to prevent runs and get a nice even finish.

If you're really concerned you could start off with several light coats of just the tight areas you're worried about getting runs on. That way you don't have to worry about hitting them as much with the main coats and if all else fails its less mess to clean up.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try hitting the tight area's with a couple light coats, then the whole wheel with a couple light coats. I'm thinking of using my brothers sand blaster to strip them down so I don't have to spend so much time sanding. Think that would be a good move?

Eh, its not a bad idea. Just be careful what media you use or you could tear up the surface of the rims. If you're not cleaning up mass corrosion I would even say try using walnut shell.

Not really any corrosion, just getting the factory paint and clear off. There is some extra crap on the back, but maybe a heavy degreaser and sanding is the best way to get it done.
