Panhard bar question

I know you guys are both very knowledgeable about suspensions, so maybe there's something I'm missing.
As far as I can see, the tie rods are parallel to the LCA- just how you want them to be for the LEAST amount of bump steer. The lesser angle on the tie rods, the better- I agree. That being said, your steering geometry will be all wacky if your arms aren't at the same angle as your tie rods. Making your tie rods flatter- ie putting them on top of the ears- with your arms not flat will actually cause worse bump steer... you with me?

Actually you are right. Well mostly right at least. I didn't really think too much about the effect on bump steer and mostly the wear on the parts from being at such an angle. The tie rods don't necessarily have to be parallel with the control arms. The pivot points of the outer tie rods are supposed to be in line with the ball joints on one side and inner tie rods in line with the control arm pivot points at the other and point toward the instant center. After actually looking and thinking of how our vehicles are setup. The bump steer ain't so bad. Just the angles on the TRE's are shitty. If we can think of a way to lift the steering rack, we could correct the tie rod angles. Might be more work than its worth, since bump steer isn't all that noticeable on our rigs.

EDIT: lifting the rack wouldn't make sense either on our rigs since the uca is not flat when lifted. My brain hurts..

Lol, rack wear is how I started with that also - the failing rack guides are testimonies to the bad angle..

Panhard Correction Kits are in!

Here are the parts in steel; test fit on my spare axle housing and spare frame:

The panhard drop bracket, although perfectly vertical on my 1996 truck, angles toward the right side of the vehicle on my 2001 frame; so there are indeed manufacturing differences between trucks.

So make during installation that your welder/installer trims as necessary to get true vertical alignment of the holes (make sure the frame is square to the horizon first!)

Overall, I'm quite pleased with how these turned out!

However, now I'm concerned that I might have forgotten to order the washers/spacers for the drop bracket - will make an emergency trip to the hardware store over the weekend if I need to.

I'll be bagging and packing these over the weekend and will start shipping out as soon as I can (I have day work both Saturday and Sunday.)

A couple folks still haven't paid, but I'll hold the price for them and anyone else who wants a kit at this price so long as they get the funds on the way while I'm in the process of shipping all these orders.

Have a great Friday night everyone!

Quick update guys: I did indeed neglect to order the 3mm spacers for the drop brackets - and I couldn't find them locally over the weekend.

I've got a rush order in for Wednesday, so the stuff can start going out then (have to put the spacers in the bags before I seal them)

My apologies; I simply forgot to submit the order after I spec'd the spacers!

On the other hand, I'm happy to report that inner tubes make great industrial rubber bands. :)

I'm speechless. [emoji43]
These are worth a solid $100 Keith.
The fit looks incredible; definitely as close to an OEM look as physically possible [emoji1376]
Thanks again for doing this, and for giving us all such a great deal on them.

I don't see one thing I'm wrong about, but that's just me [emoji1383]

Yeah; lifting the rack would induce bump steer as well.
Aside from a fabricated lift spindle, I don't think there is really anything to do to try to "correct" the front geometry. That being said, a lift spindle really isn't feasible. The axle center is already low on the knuckle, and there really isn't room to lower it any more. I don't see any point in trying to correct anything on the front end... other than moving the LBJ forward. [emoji12] While we would be using the LCA to accomplish this, we wouldn't be moving the whole LCA forward(pivots would remain in existing locations)- hence why I say move the LBJ forward.

Those look great! I guess I should have ordered two drop brackets too.

Guys; I was in the process of preparing shipping labels when a family emergency occurred; I was only able to complete 4 shipments, which a friend will send out when the spacers arrive tomorrow.

I'll get the rest of you taken care of when I get back into town - hang in there.

Absolutely family first.

Thanks guys.

It looks like my wife might be able to bring me all the stuff on Sunday so that I can resume packing & shipping on Monday - will update when I can.

On the other hand, I've had a couple of guys inquire about getting in on the order - so there's time to squeeze some more folks in due to the delay in packing & shipping. If you're one of those folks, PM me your email and address and I'll get you in on the run.
