I know you guys are both very knowledgeable about suspensions, so maybe there's something I'm missing.
As far as I can see, the tie rods are parallel to the LCA- just how you want them to be for the LEAST amount of bump steer. The lesser angle on the tie rods, the better- I agree. That being said, your steering geometry will be all wacky if your arms aren't at the same angle as your tie rods. Making your tie rods flatter- ie putting them on top of the ears- with your arms not flat will actually cause worse bump steer... you with me?
Actually you are right. Well mostly right at least. I didn't really think too much about the effect on bump steer and mostly the wear on the parts from being at such an angle. The tie rods don't necessarily have to be parallel with the control arms. The pivot points of the outer tie rods are supposed to be in line with the ball joints on one side and inner tie rods in line with the control arm pivot points at the other and point toward the instant center. After actually looking and thinking of how our vehicles are setup. The bump steer ain't so bad. Just the angles on the TRE's are shitty. If we can think of a way to lift the steering rack, we could correct the tie rod angles. Might be more work than its worth, since bump steer isn't all that noticeable on our rigs.
EDIT: lifting the rack wouldn't make sense either on our rigs since the uca is not flat when lifted. My brain hurts..
