Papabeach's Mod Thread

I think you've been running the Sonoran Steel rear lower control arms with the Toyota bushings for a few years now right? Any issues or comments on them?

And any issues or comments on the strong flex rear upper control arm bushings? Any squeaking or anything?

At almost 300k I've replace everything on the front suspension but never really touched any of the bushings on the rear and those are what I'm leaning toward. I have a PCK on the way so I'm thinking it may be time to do all the rear bushings.

Radflo rear shocks in and transmission rebuild underway…more to follow.

Wow, long time…let’s see. Not done yet but here is an appetizer. It was time for a manual transmission rebuild so why not R452 5th gear swap?!? Going to be sweet in front of the dual cases. I get all the off-road capability and finally an appropriate highway gear.

I've had the 5th gear swap parts in my Toyota drawer at work for the last few months. Just need to find the time to open up my brand new transmission and swap gears out. I'll get there eventually lol Let me know what you think of them. It should be close to 4th gear ratio for the automatics (0.71).

whats this 5th gear swap?! lower RPMS on freeway?? thats what im wanting
That’s exactly it. Takes the 5th gear ratio from 0.85 to 0.67-0.72 (depending on what write up you’re reading). You’ll need a 5th gear and counter gear. I don’t have the part numbers handy at the moment.

That’s the plan. I am geared at 4:88s with 285/75/16. On the highway in order to run 70 mph I am around 3K RPMs. This should fix the problem and still let me be happy wheeling. I have a s/c, etc…otherwise I am not sure I would have enough power to make this work. I will post here and report back when done.

3333625030 and 3304625030 are the part numbers for the gear and counter gear. I ordered mine through amayama, and it was about $150 before shipping. I don't think I could find any US toyota dealers that even listed 3304625030.

Any idea if this works on a W59?
It’s a different gear set unfortunately. A guy on pirate tore his w59 down to compare gears and pretty much nothing was the same. I haven’t come across anyone stating that they found a solution for the w59 transmission either.

thanks for the help BadLuck!! i will for sure get this for when im ready to rebuild an r150 from the junkyard :hungry:

R452d my R150F manual transmission and had it fully rebuilt!!! Disclaimer...not done by me...done by a professional shop :-). All new gears, bearings, syncros, counter shaft... For anyone that has a 5spd that regeard to 4:88 or 5:29 and hates highway driving with RPMs >3,000 this is for you. Especially for the boosted group that is already spending $$$ on gas. I can't say how nice it is to have the best of both worlds...low gearing for off-road and a real "over-drive" gear for the highway. The R452 gear is (0.69) vs OEM 5th gear (0.838). For a 20+ year old vehicle this breathes new life! I doubt I am the first on here to have this mod completed but surely the only crazy person to have a dual cased, dual locked, boosted mid travel monster with this setup :-).

The day has come, she is up for sale, $25K. The ad is on the for sale page in the classified section. It’s time for someone to be as cool as I once was and have some adventures and Go Places!

Link below! I can throw in a 2nd supercharger nose cone and power folding heated side mirrors that are ready for install (never got around to it).

Buy me now!

I'm sad to see it go. I hope you enjoy the new truck and landcruiser. Post some pictures of the replacements

Well I figured I should keep this thread alive. I now own this runner. This will be my 3rd 3rd gen 4runner. I guess I’m just obsessed with these things. Got it registered today and did a little driving around town to get a feel. The gears plus the SC is a night and day difference from my current 4runner. I can’t wait to take this one to Moab.

Awesome! Great idea! Nice buy :)
