Parking Break light when shifting

Hey I've had my 95 4runner for about a year now and the parking break light flashes on and off sometimes when I shift gears. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this.

do you have enough brake fluid in the resivor? or is the part on the ebrake not making contact or making contact causing the light to come on or it could just be a faulty wire as well!

i am not the best on brakes so take what i say with a grain of salt! so just check your brake fluid! its quick and cheap if its just fluid level!

Has it always done this? has it gotten worse? If your fluid is low enough to do this... you either need to change your brake pads, or find a leak somewhere. you shouldnt really ever have to top up brake fluid unless you have a leak somewhere along the line. Is it only when you push in the clutch? Or does it happen when you just let off the gas?

I think it might be a faulty wire. It started a month ago and it turns on when I shift from one gear to another and then it will stay on for about 3 seconds and then it turns off and comes back on when I shift again.

Is it at all possible that, when you shift, your Toyota has so much extreme raw horsepower , and that your ebrake handle is loose, and might just move enough to turn the light on.... ?

Yeah, that's it. Waay too much HP is the problem.

I've only had mine for a month or so and it's doing the same exact thing. Being my first Toyota ('94) and not knowing any better at first I thought it was some sort of shift indicator. Would love to hear if there's a fix.

Haha, yeah it's probably too much horsepower.

I got it fixed and I needed new brakes.

As already said. The "brake light" tells you when the parking brake is on AND when you have a loss/low on brake fluid. There aren't any sensors on the brake pads/shoes to tell you when the brakes need to be replaced.

Reasons that you can have low fluid would be from a leak OR more likely, as the pads and shoes wear the fluid fills the voids in the brake cylinders. This is normal and nothing to worry about.
