Part ID help - which Sensor is this in the picture?

Years ago I had an O2 Sensor replaced at the dealer - they suggested I buy the sensor in the picture below in the event the one they replaced didn't fix the problem and now I can't remember what this sensor is for. I have CA emissions and just looked under my 4Runner - and the wiring looks too short to be the rear O2 Sensor and the front O2 Sensor looks pretty new. Any help appreciated.

Is that a Denso brand sensor?
The reason I ask is that the OEM is I think Denso.
If that is correct and if it is not Denso then it's not OEM.

Something is wrong. That is the front O2 sensor for a Federal (Non-Cali.) 4Runner. It crosses to a Denso 234-4162. If the wire was long enough, you could use it in back, or extend the wires by soldering an extension. Cali 4Runners use an air/fuel sensor in front, which is a totally different technology, and will not even allow an O2 to plug up. Are you sure that charge is for the sensor in the picture? Are you sure you are a Cali.?

Toyota list is $202.78, so I'd be a little PO'd at somebody.

I'm pretty sure this is the invoice I got when I got this sensor - but again it's been 15 years. I've had this sensor stashed in the rear storage cubbie ever since.

Yep - positive I've got CA emissions.

Dang. That plug doesn't match any used on a '99 4WD V6 4Runner. Here is the A/F sensor (234-9002) which SHOULD be used on your truck in front, as it is on mine:

I don't know what that is you have pictured. I have always thought there were only two types of plugs for flanged exhaust sensors--the O2s and the A/Fs. I hope someone out there can educate me.

I don't think that sensor will plug up in either position on your truck. It is NOT a 89465-80034, which is the second one I posted above, unless Denso's site is wrong.

But if you ask me, they gave you the wrong part number, and THEN gave you a non-matching, but equally wrong part.

Looks like the plug for the 89465-80034 will fit the corresponding plug for the 234-4162.

My guess it was an old part # for the downstream O2 on either CA or Fed and the upstream for the Fed, replaced by 234-4162.

Edit - Actually, this was probably a front federal sensor that Toyota discontinued. The rear sensor was the same with a longer pigtail, so that would be the replacement.

I'll give you $20 for it!
