I was making nice progress putting the air intake back on my 3.0 V6 and about to put the sea of hoses back on at the back of the passenger side of the motor. Snap! I broke the very brittle hose that I would call the PCV hose. It has some pretty tight bends. Is it typical to replace this with a longer piece of generic hose and not worry about being tight to the block? Any suggestions on getting the PCV valve out without taking the intake plenum off again?

Yes That was very brittle and the two orifices snapped off. I went to the local self serve and got a similar part off a 4 banger car. it was 24 mm but the threads were the same. NAPA couldn't find one in their system.
The part that broke most recently was the PCV hose that comes out of the grommet on the passenger side valve cover and attaches to a port in the spaghetti mess on the intake plenum.
We are having snow at the moment and I stopped working on it. Since I recently had the plenum off and haven't run the beast, I may just pull it back off. According to horror stories on another forum, the rubber gets brittle and this is a classic issue. I might have to take the valve cover off to retrieve grommet chunks when it shatters coming out.

On my '92 I had the same problem when I pulled off everything to do the valve cover gaskets. I got by with just a regular fuel vapor hose. Played with the length a little to get the bend right, and not kink it off. And, I actually had to take the valve cover back off to get the PCV valve out. The top of the rubber grommet all broke, and the valve fell down into the cover. The rubber was too hard, and I couldn't get it to break. New PCV and new grommet, all better! That sucks to pull it off again, but I couldn't see any other way to do it.
